Gorgeous course

You pretty much know as you drive into the car park that this James Braid designed course isn't going to let you down, and after that it's just about enjoying the round.

This isn't the longest course, there are only a couple of par 5's, but the fairways aren't always the widest and the greens have a lot of bunkers protecting them, so you're going to have to play well to score well.

There are so many varied, pretty and interesting holes, that it's hard to pick a favourite. The par 3's all seem to be very pleasing on the eye, with the pick probably being the downhill 17th, where a lake awaits all tee shots straying left.

As for the condition, the tees and fairways were really good, while the greens were decent without being spectacular. The bunkers were the only area which I thought were a little disappointing, with very little sand on top of any of the (numerous!) bunkers I visited.

This certainly isn't a flat course, and expect to do a decent amount of uphill walking over the first 5 holes. After that it flattens out a little. The walk is worth it though.

Whilst I didn't visit the clubhouse, it does look a very impressive building standing above the 1st/18th holes. The welcome in the pro shop was very warm and friendly too.

In case you haven't worked it out yet, I totally recommend Bramley GC!

Lovely setting, great greens. A state of the art "Eco Loo".......

I discovered Bramley as part of a Winter Club competition played in a Matchplay form. A lovely course a few miles from Guildford. It starts slightly on the flat side but one soon realised that one needs a good pair of legs to do 18th holes. Very stunning views, a great challenge too on a well maintained course. The greens were very, very undulating and in superb condition. The fairways were superb too. Nicely laid out paths to next holes. One can feel that this is a private members course.I enjoyed every hole of my discovery but I did not produce a winning score......

Water comes into play on a few holes, is very manageable even for a short hitter like me. Of course it is better if you know the course, I made a few misjudgements not having a course planner available. My opponent was helpful but obvioulsly being a left hander I don't always see the course as everybody else....strange thing but true., so I prefer to make my own decisions.

Has someone ever talk about a toilet in their review? Well, I did notice the most advanced, state of the art, Unisex ECO Loo offering a normal sit down toilet and a "pissoir". It is all very clean and Eco friendly, all natural material used, built out of wood, in the woods, a short walk from the 8th or 9th hole if I remember correctly.

I cannot remember much more about the course itself, but we had a warm welcome in the Proshop, with great fashionable stock but no Course planner. The Ladies changing room was pleasant and well furnished, the Clubhouse very inviting with a huge Car Park at the back. Actually I had breakfast cooked for me in the VW Camper Van of my golfing friend from Hampton Court Palace. I provided the coffee...

That is all, a short review for a change.

THE END....

Enjoyable Challenge - Recommended

Bramley is a beautifully situated parkland course located a couple of miles south of Guildford, Surrey. It is not very long, ie a par 69, but it is in wonderful condition. There are only 2 par 5s and 5 par 3s; the SSS is only 67. Two of the 11 par 4s were in excess of 430 yards but otherwise were short/reachable for the older/medium hitters. A few undulating holes but otherwise a reasonable walk.

The greens were generally large and undulating, were in wonderful condition but 'medium' paced. Many were guarded by deep greenside bunkers; 4 of which were found during my round.

The clubhouse is wonderfully situated overlooking the course with a great vista from the main bar and dining area. The course was played in June 2017; by entry into their Visitors Seniors Open Stableford Competition. Coffee, 18 holes and a two course post match meal represented excellent VFM.
A course I'd be happy to play again.

One to go back to

Paid £25.00 with 241s. Well maintained course with first 5 holes testing your stamina as lot of up's and down's including heart attack hill! Course flattens out then until towards the end. Good test with a mix of holes. My only criticism would be the par 4s are either a bit short, or way too long unless you are a big hitter. So you really have to use your additional shots, which I guess is the whole point of the handicap system. Will be going back again. p.s. only wear white socks if you wear shorts as one of my playing partners had to buy some. Rules are rules I suppose.

4 stars all round

A players course. Not to long but a great layout that will test your short game. Very friendly staff and members along with good food. I will be adding this one to my list.

Superb Well Kept Course - TSG Get some agreements going!!!!

Well it cost £25 in week with 2for1, and £30 at weekends after 2, without which I feel this course is over priced, but this is no exception in my opinion. It is also a new member of the Fairways Card. As for the course, even in recent changing conditions the course was in immaculate condition. Greens smooth, fairways firm and overall one of the nicest looking and interesting courses I have played. Will be going back. The clubhouse pro shop is friendly and informative, and Nick English was nice over the phone and in person, as well as flexible. The bar area is really nice overlooking the 16th fairway and 18th green. Would imagine it being great for a society do. Practise facilities also good - range, pitching/chipping area and putting greens. Check it out fellow TSGers. toby
