Description

The Crail Golfing Society, situated on the eastern edge of Fife (10 miles from St Andrews), dates back to 1796 and is reputedly the 7th oldest golf club in the world. The club has two 18 hole links courses (one either side of the road). The famous Balcomie links was laid out by golfing legend Old Tom Morris in 1895 and the new Craighead links by Gil Hanse in 1998. Both courses offer fantastic links golf with the Balcomie, largely running along the shoreline, also adding magnificent views. Visitors are always welcome, contact club to make arrangements.

Balcomie - Fantastic Links

Very old course on North Sea coast 12 miles south of St Andrews. Clubhouse is for members and players only - so dont waly there from Crail to have a look around and expect to have a pint and a sandwich if any members are lurking in the shadows. The course is short but very hard when the wind blows. Stunning views throughout. £49 green fees may seem expensive, but it's well worth it. Some fairways are a bit close to each other (or 4 holes share the same very wide fairway). I would play midweek when the course is quiet otherwise it might be a tad frustrating.

Craighead - Is not Balcomie

Lovely course, set out for the American market, nice pretty condition, I'd dispute links over cliff top course, good greens, super fairways, however, if going for a true links test, take the Balcomie Course, they charge the same, but offer Craighead on certain golf deals, Next time Balcomie
