More information about Heworth Golf Club

Clubhouse, Professional shop, Golf practice area.
The Heworth Golf Club is one of the most popular golf clubs in the North East of England.

Although some perceive this a ‘flat’ and therefore ‘easy’ course, it will offer golfers of all abilities the opportunity to test their skills especially with the introduction of many tree lined fairways. The course is set out in inland style. Apart from the many thousands of rapidly growing trees, the course has benefited from a number of subtle changes made in conjunction with our course architect ensuring that the course maintains a standard scratch of 71 (6421 yards). The wildlife on the course is thriving with the care to ensure that there are a number of natural habitats.

The front nine holes are considered to be slightly easier although throughout the first 6 holes you need to ensure that you keep your ‘slice to a minimum’. After negotiating these holes, you may feel that you can somewhat ‘loosen up’ however beware as many copses are now in play and tee shots need careful consideration.

The new Clubhouse was opened in 1998 by the President of the Durham Golf Union. Part of the old clubhouse now forms the Professionals shop.

The clubhouse is a two storey building. The ground floor housing the Secretary’s office, locker rooms and a foyer leading to the first floor which comprises of two main rooms – a large main lounge and a bar lounge with snooker and pool area (under 18 years old are only allowed to play pool).

Visitors are always welcome at Heworth.

Modern Clubhouse - Lockers etc on ground floor, bar upstairs with disabled lift. Balcony overlooking course, hot food available every day till 7pm. Widescreen Sky TV, Snooker and pool tables. Very friendly.
Flat easy walking with tree-lined fairways. Greens as good as anywhere, bunkers with ample sand and most rough is sensibly cut. A good test of golf.
2 practice areas - 1 with view of 1st tee which is useful during comps. Good large practice green which mimics those on the course. Practice nets.
The course has seen significant improvements over the last decade with many trees planted and is well worth a visit.
