A very good course - recommended
John O'Gaunt GC (JOG) describe themselves as a 'premier club' in Bedfordshire. Being the first club in Bedfordshire that I have played I am unable to affirm that opinion, but I can confirm that it impressed me.
JOG has two 18 hole courses, the JOG and the Carthagena. The club was established in 1948, quite young in some circles!
I played the JOG course which is their number one course. A par 71 parkland style, 6,535 yards from the white tees.
Midweek visitor green fees are £55 or £30 as a members guest. I played the course by entereing their annual Seniors Open Stableford Competition. The competition entry fee included coffee, 18 holes, a two course lunch and prizes. Excellent VFM.
The course is a about a 90 minutes drive from South West London.
The course was in wonderful condition, was undulating but not overly so. Greens were well guarded by deep bunkers and were undulating and tricky to read.
There is a wonderful clubhouse, the members were welcoming, the catering was excellent and the competition very efficiently run.
The JOG course is a very good course and I can readily recommend it to TSGers as a course to play if opportunity arises.
