Very pretty parkland course but playing the greens........
Played Lamberhurst on a very windy but dry day. The course is a very pretty parkland layout with some lovely views across the Kent countryside.
The practice facilities comprised a short pitching area and a putting green so a little disappointing but the pro shop staff and bar staff were all very friendly.
The course is well presented, well maintained and laid out across, up, and down the valley. This means that there are few flat fairways (some up, some down, left to right, right to left but never flat!) but it also means you get some fantastic views.
It's a challenging course with some tight dog-legs, lots of trees and the odd bit of water (I was told the River Teise) crossed several times. The greens are generally well protected, massively undulating, hard to read and very fast.
In all I'd say the course is well worth playing (albeit a bit expensive at £40).
My only criticism would be that the greens are too hard which means that even with a well flighted shot you are lucky to hold the green with anything less than an 8 iron (plus with the undulations adding unwelcome kicks you sometimes feel a little hard done by!) This comes to a head on the Par 3 12th which I beleive is unplayable as a Par 3 - 209 yards off the yellow tee; guarded by bunkers to the front, the right and a horseshoe shaped one at the back; and yet the green is hard and doesn't hold (I hit a high 5 wood which pitched over the front bunkers onto the front of the green, bounced through the green into the rear bunker - harsh! - should have played a 6 iron down to the front of the bunkers and a sand wedge over...)
