Description
Paultons Golf Centre is situated on the edge of the New Forest near the picturesque town of Romsey. Paultons GC has 24 holes of outstanding golf with a spectacular backdrop of woodland and classic parkland, built within the original Paultons Estate. The clubhouse has extensive facilities, including a well stocked pro-shop, restaurant and bar and some fantastic views over the course from the upstairs open planned function facility. There are 24 holes of golf - a 6 hole par 3 Academy course and the 18 hole Championship course. Both courses offer a significant challenge to golfers of all standards. The 18 hole Par 71 Championship Golf Course measuring 6238 yards has a good balance of holes from the bunker filled 1st to the picturesque yet tricky 15th, there are plenty of challenges you will encounter on your way round. The more open parkland, front nine can easily lure golfers into a false sense of security before hitting the heavily tree lined back nine, with some particular care needed on the 13th and 14th holes. We pride ourselves on the quality of the year round playability of the course, for the 5th winter in succession our members and visitors have not had to contend with a single temporary green!

Tale of two halves

The front nine was quite open and a bit featureless. Back nine much maturer and a bit more of a challenge. Course had suffered from recent snow and rain, and was very boggy in places. No temporary greens or tees though, and greens were ok given the conditions. Would play again the summer, as enjoyed the back nine.

"WINTER" IS HERE

This is my home club. We have enjoyed good conditions throughout the summer with the course generally being better maintained than many of its more prestigious and expensive counterparts. We are now on winter tees (some mats, some secondary grass tees), and today we played on "frost greens" (pins always at the front), however, the fairways and greens remain in great nick which is a real testament to the greenkeeping team as the course is "pay and play". For those of you who don't know the set up here, it is a flat parkland course, with a fairly open front 9 but a much tighter back. There is a good quality driving range and overall it is a good value venue. I am happy to "host" anyone who would like to try it out (no I am not on commission!).

Nice and different

Go and play and make your own mind up, its like playing 2 complete different course, front 9 open, 2nd 9 tree lined and needs to be plotted and not just smashed around
