Pontpool Golf Club, situated above the town of Pontypool, was founded in 1903 and has excellent views of the Eastern Valley and down across the Bristol Channel. The course, situated in this idylic, far from level, setting is well maintained and has lots of character and provides a good challenge to all handicaps alike. The course is overlooked by the Folly Tower a local landmark which is also the Golf Club Logo, The Folly was pulled down during the war to prevent German bombers using it to locate the Ordinance factory at Glascoed, and was rebuilt in 1994 and reopened by Prince Charles the Prince of Wales. Visitors are always welcome and the club, unusually, charges the same to weekend visitors as it does to those visiting midweek (although the discount cards/vouchers are only recognised midweek).
