Description

Porthmadog Golf Club was opened in the early 1900's.  Numerous changes and modifications have been carried out since those early days and the result is a front nine which is an excellent series of almost heathland holes and a back nine which offers probably the finest sequence of links golf holes in Wales.  In addition to the superb golf the views from the high ground are excellent.  Visitors are welcome with some time restriction.

Very Enjoyable Challenge of Two Halves

This is a semi-links style par 71 course comprising 5 par 3s; 9 par 4s and 4 par 5s. The course was in excellent condition and the greens were tricky to read. Played in May time; excellent weather.
There are two distinct halves to the course; ie a front 9 of parkland styles holes and the links style back 9 holes; where the tee shots and greens were much more difficult.
Hitting FIR was essential to your chances of posting a good score. In my case a good round was spoilt by one horrendously played hole, a 9 on the par 5 17th.
A good reception by the pro shop but we were unable to sample the clubhouse facilities and catering as we travelled immediately to another venue for an afternoon game.
The green fee only was £35 which was OK VFM but about £10 more than I would have liked to pay.
One of many good courses in the Snowdonia area of North Wales. Recommended.
