Large clubhouse with excellent facilities. Fully stocked professional shop. Extensive golf practice facilities. Golf academy.
Description
Wetherby Golf Club was founded in 1910. Most of the land was leased from the Leconfield Estate until the early 1920s when the course was extended to a full 18-holes to a design by the famous golf course architect Dr. Alistair Mackenzie.

Within the last thirty years two extra parcels of redundant farmland has

been acquired to the south of the club house to build six completely new

holes to replace those crammed into the narrow neck of land alongside the

increasingly busy road through the village of Linton.

Wetherby can now proudly present an 18-hole golf course that has been

constructed to meet the requirements of the modern game.

From the tiger tees the new course has been extended to almost 6,700 yards,

though because of the generous space available in the construction of tees

there are now five variable tee positions providing a course to suit all

ages and golfing abilities. This includes the junior golfers who have graduated from our active and successful Academy.

Six holes now have stunning views of the River Wharfe as it winds its way

from Collingham to Wetherby. The hill climbing over the closing holes has

been eliminated and although the course is best described as undulating the

walking is comfortable and pleasant.

On the first floor of the clubhouse are a mixed lounge and a 19th, a snooker room, ladies lounge and magnificent dining room able to seat up to 100 diners.

The first floor rooms are complemented by an elevated terrace area which gives superb views of the golf course and the Wharfe Valley. This provides an ideal vantage point from which, with drink in hand, to view the remainder of your party putting out on the 18th green.

Wetherby Golf Club and its staff prides itself in being able to cater for individual and group golfing needs. Its location, within 1 mile of the Great North Road (A1) enables ease of access. The extended clubhouse provides for flexibility of use, particularly in respect of corporate needs for meetings and presentations, followed by 'relaxation' on the golf course.

Quality and well worth the trip, tough track

One of my favourite courses, Wetherby Golf Club was founded in 1910 on land which, during the 19th Century was the site of Wetherby Racecourse. You'll find it on the border with the village of Linton nestling in the Wharfe Valley. Check out the houses around the course!
"Six holes now have stunning views of the River Wharfe as it winds its way from Collingham to Wetherby. The hill climbing over the closing holes has been eliminated and, although the course is best described as undulating, the walking is comfortable and pleasant. Added to that, the course, with its new design, has achieved its major goal of providing two loops of 9-holes, one of Dr. Mackenzie's priority aims for the perfect layout, though he never managed to achieve it himself over 80 years ago."
