Description

Part of the De Vere Hotel group, Wokefield Park offers full hotel & conference centre facilities including the 7,000 yard Chapionship golf course.  Designed by Jonathan Gaunt, and always maintained to a high standard, the contemporay parkland course uses streams, nine lakes and large bunkers as formidable hazards for the wayward golfer (the par 3 12th requires a near 200 yard carry over water!). Visitors are always welcome.

Not well maintained

Fairways very dry, tee boxes poorly maintained. Very little sand in the vast and many bunkers made shots very difficult to judge. Shame because its a nice enough course. Err off the fairway and you will not find your ball in the unforgiving rough

Average

For a PGA standard course it can do with a bit of TLC, other than that, there is lots of challenges. Lots of bunkers, 9 lakes and certainly perfect for those with good course management. Great for learning for sure.

Great value for money

teeofftimes.co.uk special rate of £15 pounds ! Course was in great shape and weather was perfect, and struck lucky as it was not busy. Flew around in a bit over 3 hours. I will be back soon that's for sure.

To my taste: tough , challenging in a beautiful Berkshire countryside setting....

A vast open Parkland course (designed by Jonathan Grant) tough, challenging, enjoyable, my kind of course & today (Tuesday 8th Jan 2013) we had the course to ourselves, well nearly as we shared it with the kites & the geese (& the noisy train line Reading to the West Country: the only drawback on such a beautiful setting)

Wokefield Park is part of the large De Vere Group where style & luxury goes hand in hand but it is not oppressive. There are 2 hotels of a totally different style: ultra modern & traditional. Health & Fitness facility and the Golf Course.

Elevated Tees, wide fairways, old mature trees, mainly oak, streams and 9 lakes, lots of wide/deep/huge bunkers nicely filled with soft sand (only a few had little standing water), all of the above providing a very interesting layout, lots of walking but not strenuous, lot of thinking to plot your way safely to the greens that were in good condition despite the "spiking" holes/marks. The shapes of the greens had interest. Fairways were sloping at times, some tight dog legs with lakes either side. All very challenging but enjoyable, not too manicured, the rough could penalise the errand shots. there were a few wet patches but nothing too significant considering the recent weather.

Signage could be improved as for a first timer, one still had to carefully look for the way forward, the same in the large car parks as you enter the property.

An attractive halfway hut but today it was closed. Clubhouse/Bar is modern & inviting, food is good, cannot remember the prices. Free coffe/tea upstairs. Proshop friendly with good stock but no Ladies clothing. Excellent practice facilites but did not use them. Crazy golf for children and an adventure/climbing enclosure for grown up or children alike. A nice feel about the place.

Lovely balcony overlooking the 10th & 18th hole & the outside patio area which is extremely smart with good quality wooden garden furniture. It must be a pleasure to sit outside after a Spring/Summer round of golf. Smart changing rooms. Everything seem to be catered for an enjoyable day. There are some excellent offers to tempt you to come back & spend more than a day of golf. It would be nice to return in the Spring/Summer & truly appreciate this vast complex at leisure, could be a romantic weekend.

Today, the game was organised by a new TSGer, Alei D. who got us an extremely good deal, £16.00 for the round & we had the course to ourselves.

THE END... Yes, I am trying to write shorter reviews!

Lovely course

Wokefield Park is a fairly long parkland course, but the fairways are wide enough to allow you to have a go from the tee. There are some nice holes and you don't get the feeling of going "up and down", and certainly on a warm summer's night it's a great place to play. On the downside, I have had some long rounds here though, and to get the most out of the course you need to look for some online deals. The facilities here are also pretty good, but bar prices seem to be aimed at the business/expense rate and so aren't cheap. Overall though this is a great course and one worth playing.

Wokefield Park

Long course. Quite wide in places. very forgiving. Greens had just been treated, making putting very difficult. Would play again when greens are in better condition.

WOKEFIELD PARK

Played for the first time today. A corporate feel to the course and surroundings. Long with plenty of sand and water. Greens in poor condition as recently treated. Fairways quite lush with little run. I found it really tough but would hope to do better second time around.

Wokefield Park Golf Club

I used to be a member here, before kids came along. The course is always in great condition and is a long way round off the back tees (over 7000 yards). The practice facilities are superb, the food and club house are great (part of the Hotel) and the greens (and bunkers!) are massive. You wont be dissappointed with a round here. Great half way hut too.
