Anyone out there who can recommend where I can go to have a new set of irons custom fitted - please. You read so much about "we will do this for you and that for you" but I always seem to get the girl who is extremely nice but can't hold a club !

Any good experiences would be gratefully received.

Thanks in advance

Hi

I alaways get my new irons custom fit and it helps alot.  It does help to get them fitted exactly to spec, just going on my experience and others i know who has had it done.

Sites such as Callaway, Ping, Taylormade etc.... have links on there sites to find out fitters near you, all you need to do is put your postcode in and they show you exactly where to go.

Hi Drew, saw your post and had a look at your profile - you're obviously a very good golfer and you say you always have your clubs custome fitted but what do they change to make them better for you??

I went for a fitting once, they sent the detail direct to my club pro, it was eagerly awaited (by me the club pro was ambivalent to say the least), when it arrived it said 'standard shaft, standard grip, standard lie' what!!!!!  So, essentially I could buy any club on the market !!

When I got the news I could definitely be found at  frustrated.com (I was ready to spend my money, had the cheque book ready and everything and then I get told by the, bored, pro that I can pick any set in the shop !!!!!)

Hi Bob

Listen to Pete's first advice - the golf workshop is very good.....

Also I had mine fitted but went to Ping in Lincolnshire and spent the day there - they even measure the lie of the putter..

As Pete would know - probably hasn't improved my golf. lol. But at least I can't blame the clubs anymore...lol

Fitted doesn't cost a penny extra when you buy decent clubs so get it done.

Thanks to everyone who has provided advice - I'm now brain bursting.com !!

I must be SLOW - I don't understand what noodles have to do with the custom fitting of golf clubs unless your W-C. Liang, NOW there's a whole new topic for us to discuss.

"How long will it be before a Chinese golfer wins a Major" ?

It's an analogy. It suggests that American Golf is to custom fitting what Pot Noodle is to nutrition.

Hi Pete

I played  with standard clubs also thinking it was just the pro's etc that got fitted, but i was amazed with the whole fitting up programme when i did my fitting.  You'll be amazed with the little tweaks they can do to start you hitting the center of the iron etc, stopping heavies or thins etc

The fitting also shows you the spin rate, launch angle etc that the individual puts on the golf ball.  Different shafts etc lower or increase this depending on the computers analysis.

Id recommend it to anyone who loves the game.

Okay, having been very, very negative (yes I know I can be) and following responses from too many people to mention (all along one of two line either - the custom fitting I went to must have been appalling OR they have custom fitted clubs and they can't believe the difference they made). I've decided that I'd like to know more about custom fitting of clubs so answers please to:

-  I know that I can go to Titliest/Ping/Callaway etc and they will sell me their clubs and custom fit them - what do they charge?

-  If I go to an independent company do they have give advice over which clubs to buy? do they sell them or do you buy them elsewhere? what do they charge to custom fit them to you?

Ta.

I must state that i have not had my clubs custom fitted i play off 18, sometimes 28, but these are my personal thoughts on the subject.

If you are vertically challenged for example then the need for non-standard clubs would be a requirement.

If you are going to pay  £750+ for a set  then might as well take advantage of the custom fit as this would be about the minimum you would expect to pay for them, and would not do your game any harm.  Cheap custom fit clubs may not be of as much benifit as perhaps a better quality set.

But hey if there is someone who would like to buy me a new set of custom fit clubs i could try them out and report back....

A common misconception but this is not true. Its acutally wrist to floor measurement that is important, not height..
