Welcome to the TSG MatchPlay Championship 2020... In order to secure your place in this year’s event, join this group by 10th March at Midnight and we will put your name in the hat for the draw. This competition is ONLY open to TSG PRO members and there is only room for 64 golfers and you will require a TSG Handicap to enter(3+ cards). The tournament will be a knock-out style format and you will have one month to complete each match. The first player in each tie has first 'dibs' on the venue BUT it is paramount that you offer to meet your opponent as close to halfway as possible. In short, be sensible! *In this regard, failure to adhere to the 'Spirit of TSG' will result in immediate disqualification from the competition. Games will commence in April. Standard MatchPlay rules will apply but MUST be agreed by both players before the match begins (more info to be published at the start of the competition). Those failing to complete their games will have their matches decided by the toss of a coin. It's free to enter and will culminate in a Grand Final in Sept. This year will again see a third-place play-off. Finalists will play for free and others wishing to come along for a 'social' day in order to watch the winner 'crowned' will be able to do so at 'Members' rates (£25pp). Current TSG MatchPlay Champion 2019 – Andy King.

Well Played Tony You Played some really good Golf on a excellent golf course Good luck in the Final Hope we can play again sometime
I played Pete today at Cowdray Park. Great course and it was in fantastic condition! Weather was also great and I really enjoyed our game, Pete's was great company and we had a good game. I managed to get the win, Pete missed a couple of chances and my short game got me out of trouble at the right times. Looking forward to the final now, best of luck in your match with Roger Pete.
Thanks Roger. It was closer than Roger says. I HAD to play well, he was snapping at my heels from the off. The course was in lovely condition ready for the Finals. If we get as good weather as we had today, it'll be a great event.
Andy and I played today at Farleigh with Andy giving me 7 shots. He was just too good for me and emerged the winner by 3 & 1. We began on the Red 9. The 3rd hole, a Par 5 454 yards Andy made Eagle !! Beat that. The 5th & 6th I had shots but by hitting bunkers contrived to lose them both. After 9 holes Andy was just 4 over par and I was 2 down. The first hole on Yellow, par 5 10th, I managed a birdie, but so did Andy!! There was going to be no narrowing of the gap. We both played well on the Yellow 9, Andy with 2 great recovery shots and very solid putting. It remained two up to Andy after the 16th. My poor tee shot on the 17th par 3 gave Andy victory by 3 & 1. Congratulations Andy, well played, a deserved winner, just 3 over par on the back 9 and 7 over for the round. Best wishes for the final.

Dear TSG MatchPlayers,So, we have our semi-finalists!Congratulations, on making it all the way to finals day at Farleigh GC as well. What a line-up! And still both last year's Winner, and Runner-up (and Previous Champ) still involved, could it be a remake of last years final and/or back-to-back wins for our incumbent Champion or will 2020 see a new name on the trophy? As we have these QF ties finished ahead of schedule, we will be posting the SF ties early, and will make the draw tomorrow am. Til then...Kind RegardsIan & MarkThe TSG Event Team--------------------
Thanks KeithLovely to meet you yesterday and look forward to playing again soonThe 5 & 4 win was a bit flattering and as you say the greens were a key factor in the gameThanks for your comments and hope to see you again soonPete
My congratulations go to Pete Hammond who is through to the 2020 TSG Matchplay Semi-Finals courtesy of winning by a resounding 5 and 4 at Petersfield Golf Club yesterday. It was nip and tuck over the first 6 holes and we were both 1 up, then 1 down and level for a few holes but I was 2 down after 9 - and then Pete got going on the tricky 12th, and easier 13th and 14th holes. Petersfield is a good course (my first time there) but we both struggled on the greens at times (me in particular!!) as they had just been hollow tined, and lots of sand covering too! I really enjoyed Pete's company and he was a well deserved winner! Good luck in the semi's Pete and I look forward to playing with you again soon :-)
Steve Slater and I played our quarter final game at Mardyke Valley GC today. Conditions were good and the course was very nice. This game was decided in the first 6 holes, where I managed to get 4up. I started very well, Steve just took a little longer to get going. From then on there was absolutely nothing in it. We must have halved a dozen holes in all. It was SO close that I only managed to win 4&3 on the 15th hole from the 6th !! As always a pleasure to play with Steve.
Thank you David for a very enjoyable match today. We were lucky with dry weather and the course was in good condition. Your driving was fantastic; wish I could hit a ball that far! You were coming right back into the match but having an extra shot on the stroke index 1, 15th hole was crucial, putting me 3 up with 3 to play. All good wishes, I hope we will play again one day.
I played Roger Dickson today at pedham place. Roger was very consistent on the front 9, and went 4 up after 8. It was nip and tuck on the back 9, but I left myself too much to do and Roger was a deserved winner 3 and 2. Nice to meet you Roger and good luck in the semi's.
Congratulations to Tony after a shaky start and good luck to him in the semis and final. Im sorry i didnt give you as good a game as i should have Tony but thats golf...it draws you in and then spits you out! Best of luck for the future!
I played Nigel yesterday at a lovely little course called Hurtmore near Guildford. Not the longest of courses but great value and made a lot more challenging by the strong gusting winds that we had to contend with. Not the greatest of starts for me, 2 down after 2 I was fearing the worst! Fortunately for me I found my game and managed to pull it back and get the win. A very enjoyable game and Commiserations to Nigel as his game was not quite there on the day. I look forward to playing again sometime Nigel.
Noirin turned up with a bad calf injury, but still played on. She is the kind of golfer I love to play with. Good, bad, whatever doesn't seem to matter. She just enjoys it ( a 50ft putt that nearly went in produced great fun ). The injury more than anything else decided it. Could have been very different otherwise. Thanks Noirin, it was a really good laugh today.-- 15/08/2020 23:45:28: comment edited by Andrew J King.

Unsurprisingly, the reigning champ beat me 6&5 at Surrey National. Really enjoyed the course (very hilly & loads of bunkers), we had a good laugh & a few ‘near disasters’ with my buggy, but Andy saved me on each occasion, thank you Andy for a lovely day, it was a pleasure to meet you! Good Luck on the next round & see you in Farleigh.
SteveWell played to you and only sorry I brought my D game but you can only beat what's in front of you.Apologies for my heated rantings at the state of the worst course I have ever had the misfortune to play. The condition of the course was deplorable but the better man won on the day.Good luck in the next round and I hope u go on to win.Everyone out there stay clear of Blake's Golf Course!!!!!!!
Steve 'the Power' managed to win 2&1, thank you Greg Munro for a close match, never too much in it, reasonable weather, Blake's not in good condition.
Dear MatchPlayers,Having now finalised the venue for Finals Day at Farleigh GC in South London, Mark and I played the Orange course on Tuesday pm (and it was HOT!!)However, we can report that while the fairways were a little hard and dusty the greens really were fantastic and were holding the ball very well in these conditions. The front nine is easier than the back, but we believe it will make for a good matchplay course, as there are plenty of holes with 'risk and reward'So, with all but two of the 3rd round draw ties left to be played, we are getting the draw in early for the Quarter-Finals.And there are some BIG hitters still involved with 3 of last years 4 semi-finalists and two previous winners in the draw.QF Draw:1. Keith Pinnock Vs Peter Hammond2. David Johnson Vs Roger Dickson3. Nigel Sheppard Vs Tony Moss4. Steve Slater Vs Andrew KingAll Ties, to be completed by Sunday 6th September.#GoodLuckIan & MarkThe TSG Event Team--------------------- 15/08/2020 12:06:17: comment edited by TheSocialGolfer.
