Waterford Castle Golf Club

Waterford Castle GC is a parkland style par 72 course set on a private island in the River Suir just outside of Waterford City, Ireland. Access to the course island is via a 15 minute car ferry service to/from the island. There is a 5* hotel adjacent to the course which is separate from the clubhouse.
The course is a conventionally structured course; ie 4 par 3s; 10 par 4s and 4 par 5s; with good fast greens and is a beautiful challenge.

The course was designed by Des Smyth.

The course and hotel is under new ownership so significant investment in the course is expected over time. The course is ranked 91st in Ireland (2018 ).
I played the course under two competition circumstances; ie a Seniors Open Stableford Competition from the White SSS 70 tees at the 15 Euro Visitor rate and secondly a Thursday Open Singles Medal Competition off the Blue SSS 72 tees at the rate of 25 Euro Visitor rate which was inclusive of a post match meal. Excellent VFM was obtained by either competition entry.
The welcome for visitors in the pro shop and bar was excellent.
