Wonderful course but !!!!

A beautifully designed woodland/parkland course of a conventional par 72 construct.
Water is prominently in play on a number of holes and I fould the lakes on the 2nd, 11th and 18th particularly enticing. The layout of the 18th is very reminiscent of the 18th at Silvermere; where your drive needs to reach a clearing in order to get a clear shot at the green. Going over the trees wasn't the answer.
The greens were large, firm and undulating but were incredibly slow to putt on, a view both my playing partners and others shared. Only 1 single putt and 4 triple putts contributed to a total of 39 putts against an target of 30 putts.
Played in March 2017; some of the fairways were damp and the club were somewhat precious about that by placing boxes in these areas which contained strips of artificial matting to off from. Not good when paying a £55 green fee to play the course.
For me the main concern about the course was the extent of the very long walks that were required when exiting green to the next tees. The 'extra yardage' involved, caused my electric trolley battery to conk out after 16 holes; something which only normally occurs if the front wheel clogs up in muddy conditions.
The golf event was organised by the organiser of the Three Shires Golf Society (Dorset, Somerset & Wiltshire). The £55 green fee included coffee on arrival and hot soup at the 9th hole.
Prematch breakfast and a post match meal added about £20 to the cost of the day.
This is a course I recommend should be played, preferably in summer conditions; should a VFM opportunity arise. The club bills itself as an exclusive club for members and society and green access is limited and expensive.

Sublime

Just a fantastic golfing experience - course was in perfect condition in mid-June, very welcoming clubhouse with friendly staff, near-perfect practice facilities (we hit off the matted area at the range, presumably the turf was being kept for the open qualifier next week) and a great course with no weak holes.

A beautiful piece of land - almost eerily quiet - with no pretentions. Woburn-esque in that most holes seemed carved out of the forest, but with greater variety of trees, less intimidating fairways and, in my view, a greater variety of holes.

Not in the Premiership....

Currently ranked 57 in England's Top 100 courses. Opened in 2005 I have wanted to play it for some time but you cannot "pay & play" - eventually found a "Charity Day" for £75 which fitted the bill. My feelings about the course/club are mixed and best summarised by pros and cons.
Pros: High quality greens; some great/beautiful holes; very well maintained/manicured.
Cons: Modest clubhouse/locker rooms; stony paths; scrappy areas quite an eyesore; poor/absent signage; a tricksy 18th.
In my opinion this club is trying to be something than it is not with it's exclusivity (£5k to join and £2.5k annual membership) and very restricted ability to play. It IS a very good course but there are plenty of others that I would choose to play again ahead of this one.
