Scenic links course in shadow of Harlech Castle

With seven par 4's over 400 yards from the yellows, this isn't a course to be taken lightly. Up until the 13th the holes are mostly long with reasonably generous fairways, but that changes from the par 3 14th, a 209 yard par 3 partly hidden by dunes. From there on it's a battle to keep your score going (not that that was an issue for me today!), with the pick of the bunch being the par 4 16th. The 16th is a slightly downhill dogleg from a raised tee, and is probably the prettiest hole on the course.

You don't actually get to see the adjacent sea from the course, but there are lots of views of the mountains, and there are a couple of holes where your eyes are drawn to Harlech Castle high above you. It's a lovely location for a golf course.

I couldn't fault the tees and greens, which were in really great condition. Not all of the fairways were up to this standard however, and maybe I expected more given the cost of the green fees. This is a lovely course to play, I'm just on the fence about whether it's worth the cost.

Awful course...

We played in about 50 mph winds on a course that the top Pros would struggle on. Even a good shot was punished. Not suitable for amateurs. If it had rained I would have walked. Harlech has to be the most depressing place I have ever been to and never want to return to. The course is overshadowed by the St David's hotel which is completely vandalised. There is also a huge tower block next to it which also looks derelict. Don't know who gave planning permission for that, totally out of keeping with the area. Next to that was another monstrosity which looked like a Victorian prison which I found out was a theatre! All of these overshadow Harlech and the course.
Never want to return!
