A wonderful parkland course

Kings Lynn GC is a scenic parkland course on the outskirts of Kings Lynn, Norfolk.

The original course was established in 1923 designed by James Braid. However in 1975 the club relocated to its present site. The current course was designed by the Peter Alliss / Dave Thomas partnership; their first design!

The course is a par 72, 6,609 yards of the white championship tees. There are 3 par 3s, 12 par 4s and 3 par 5s.

The course was in magnificent condition but due to the recent weather conditions was still operating winter rules.

The course involves many elevation changes; many downhill; doglegs, pot bunkers etc. The tee shots off the par 4s /5s were much more intimidating than off the yellow tees. The CSS on the day was 75; ie +3 over par; which reflects the course difficulty. The winning score was 38 points.

Visitor green fees for May to October are £65 / £75 respectively for midweek / Sunday. I entered the club's annual Seniors Open Competition in order to get the opportunity to play the course. The entry fee was £40 including coffee, 18 holes, a two course meal, coffee and prizes. Great vfm!

All in all a great venue for golf.

The club officials and staff were very welcoming. Good food also!

Top notch

No wonder Kings Lynn features in the best 100 golf courses. It is just amazing. Believe it or not there is no water on this course, but the fairways are like Wentworth. The greens were a bit slow out of the sun but do hold a long approach. The course is long and narrow off the whites not an easy challenge.
If you get a chance to play this stunning course then do so!
