A good parkland style course

Brampton Heath Golf Centre is a parkland style course in Church Brampton, Northampton!

As it's name suggests, it is a proprietary commercial golf course and leisure venue! There is a golf membership!

As well as a health and fitness centre, there is a driving range and a 9 hole footgolf course!

*****

It is a par 72 course from all tees! It comprises the standard 4 par 3s, 10 par 4s and 4 par 5s!

The yardages are 6,869, 6,465 and 5,636 yards from the white, yellow and red tees respectively!

*****

While generally the course was in very good condition, there were a couple of fairways which were very cut up in places! In particular the par 5 10th hole, playing away from the clubhouse, was in the worst condition! No GUR relief marked!

*****

The greens

My total putts for the round was 34 putts, ie 3 singles, 11 doubles and 3 triples!

OK to some extent on 'strange' greens, but it could, and should, have been a few putts fewer!

*****

The par 3s are a mix of 3 long holes, and 1 medium:

#5: 182 yards! Index 11! A slog of a tee shot!

#7: 150 yards! A shot over water into a multi-tier green sloping up from front to back! The pin was placed within a couple of feet of a ridge! I underhit my first putt and didn't stay on the level!

#12: 206 yards! A long downhill to a large green sloping away towards an OOB fence!

#16: 178 yards, index 14! I can't remember this one! Got up and down for par!

The outturn score for the par 3s was +2, ie 1 birdie, 1 par, 1 bogey and 1 double bogey! As I have 2 shots on these holes this is an excellent outcome!

*****

The par 4s

The outturn score for the 10 par 4s was +11,ie 1 par, 7 bogeys and 2 double bogeys! As I have 8 shots for these holes, this is +3 too many! I would have expected 2 or 3 more pars!

A double on the 1st hole after an excellent tee shot, from the fairway, pulled left into thick rough, when a par was a reasonable expectation, brought a shaky start! A couple of approach shots into fairway bunkers on the 8th and 9th, accounting for a couple of the excess shots!

*****

The par 5s

The outturn score for the par 5s is +2, ie 2 pars and 2 bogeys!

As I have 3 shots on these holes, this is an excellent outcome!

Fair parkland track

Set right next door to the Northamptonshire GC, you'd be forgiven thinking its the poor relation. Maybe it is, but business seems to be pretty good as there is definitely money being spent there.
Tee boxes through to greens are in pretty good shape. Fairways seem to have a good spring to them, don't expect all you shots to run. Greens are deceptive, what you may think is an uphill is slightly down and vice versa. Bunkers suffer from the perennial lazy golfer who can't be bothered to rake, but is the first to complain that they are unraked. Make sure you have a strike saver or pictures on the phone as there are one or two holes that have hidden problems.

This was my 5th visit over the last couple of years and it will not be the last. Just a pity its so far out of the 'normal' area. But go play if you have the chance. £20 on Monday for 18 and small lunch after 12noon.
