The Wiltshire comprises 2 golf courses: an 18 "Lakes" and a 9 "Garden".
The original design of the Lakes by Peter Alliss but was altered in 2006 to create the short Garden. So some of the original holes (probably 3) are now part of the shorter course. A big shame as Peter Alliss 's design courses are always a treat with everything to make a golf course interesting & challenging, but still enjoyable by all level of golfers.
The flow is not there, at some point one wonders where to go ? and so on..... The numerous bunkers, tiered & contoured greens, water hazards, sloping fairways provide the attraction for the round.
Lovely views of the Wiltshire countryside in this parkland set up. A lovely starters hut, also a half way hut but does close early, shame...
Fairways were decent enough, rough was very tough and greens need attention.
Will describe the 17th (signature hole, I think), a Par 4, dog leg left with a large carry over water, also a blind tee shot over a lake to a marker post. many options to play this hole.
The shorter course has 3 lovely holes which were part of the original 18 and they are super, the others more like a field with a green at the end..... not all that interesting.
It was a Bank Holiday weekend away at the end of August 2014, a little wet on the 2nd & 3rd day for my liking, it spoilt the enjoyment of the game but we made up once in the Clubhouse where the drinks got flowing and the spirit rannarapo@wanadoo.fremained high as the chemistry was there.
The hotel was perfectly adequate, warm reception, comfortable rooms, the food was excellent, service fine considering how busy it was. We also enjoyed the Pool/Jacuzzi/Sauna/Steam room.
Proshop well stocked. I had a pleasant encounter but some of our group did not have the same experience....
Ladies changing room were adequate but could do with some updating.
Large Car Park.
The course needs some attention, so do the greens and the rain did spoil the enjoyment a little.. I believe this Leisure complex is under new management and things are on the up.
There is what looks like a pleasant holiday village see-able from the hotel and the course, now private housing and rentals alike.
The deal we had was excellent value for money, the drive from West London good and easy access once you leave the Motorway. Very pleasant drive through Royal Wootton Bassett.
Will probably return in a few years time to see any improvements, I did enjoy my weekend.
THE END..............
