We are a friendly society playing social golf games every 3 to 4 weeks at a great range of courses all over Kent. Quarterly Challenge Cup competitions. Players of all standards are welcome to join us.
AUTUMN CHALLENGE CUP WON BY GARY BEVAN WITH 36 POINTSA field of 19 players competed for the cup at Canterbury Golf Club in amazingly warm and dry weather for November. In 2nd and 3rd places close behind Gary were Steve Flint (34 pts) and in joint 3rd Philip McCarthy and Dave Johnson (both 33 points).Unsurprising long hitter Steve Flint yet again won the longest drive. However the tight elevated green of the tricky par 3 thirteenth hole proved too difficult and not a single player managed to land a ball on the green in the nearest the pin competition. Our next Society game Is on the 27th November at Sittingbourne Golf Club (all our Society games are posted on TSG).
SUMMER CHALLENGE CUP WON BY ROLAND AVERY WITH 35 POINTSIn a summer with a record period of sun and high temperatures a field of 18 competed in ridiculously wet conditions at Redlibbets Golf Club yesterday. The best that can be said is that all players should be congratulated on surviving 18 holes and we all returned to the clubhouse extremely wet. In 2nd and 3rd places close behind Roland were Mark Thomson (34 pts) and Graham Moorfield (33 pts).Kate Tan won the longest drive competition on the 7th hole and Mark Thomson was one of the few players to land his tee shot on the green of the difficult 17th hole to win the nearest the pin competition. Our next Society game will be in September and the Autumn Challenge Cup will be held in November (all games will be posted on TSG).

SPRING CHALLENGE CUP WON BY LINDA HOOPER WITH 44 POINTS.A field of 18 players competed for at Tudor Marriott Country Club in Maidstone yesterday and Linda left the rest of the field in her wake winning by a 7 point margin from Steve Flint and Philip McCarthy in joint 2nd place.Big hitter Steve Flint won the longest drive and Pat Lawrence won the nearest the pin being one of the few players to actually land on the tricky 4th green. The next cup competition will be the Summer Challenge Cup and meanwhile we will be holding our regular social group games every 3 or 4 weeks (all will be posted here on TSG).
A reduced field of 8 players braved the Artic weather conditions at Southern Valley today to contest the 2018 Winter Challenge Cup and returned some great points totals despite the rain, freezing temperatures and wind (see photos on the group page)——Local WGS member Dave Johnson won with an impressive 35 points followed by Graham Moorfield and Andy King in joint 2nd place with 33 points——Nearest The Pin was won by Linda Hooper (she was the only player to stay on the green) and Longest Drive was won by Kevin Elliott——In the wet conditions Malcolm Smith managed to let go of his driver on the 9th and 13th tees (luckily none of his playing partners were injured)—-Congratulations to all those who played and let’s hope for better weather for the Spring Challenge Cup.
A record field of 20 players entered the Autumn Challenge Cup competition at the Weald of Kent Golf Club yesterday.A close fought contest was eventually won on count back by Steve Flint with a score of 35 points (this points total was also matched by Mike White and Pat Lawrence) with the majority of players all scoring in excess of 30 points.A special mention goes to a new society member Ernesto Cousillas who although not eligible to compete for the cup turned in an impressive points score of 38 playing off a 12 handicap.Andy King won the longest drive competition and Kevin Gregory won nearest the pin.The next cup game will be the Winter Challenge Cup competition to be played in February - details to follow.Meanwhile we will be holding our regular social group games every 3 to 4 weeks.RegardsMalcolm
Congratulations to John Groombridge winner of the inaugural WGS Summer Challenge Cup at West Malling yesterday.A field of 16 players across a wide range of handicaps all played some competitive golf on the Hurricane course with the usual amount of friendly banter mixed in. John triumphed with a Stableford score of 37 points with Steve Heywood and Sean O'Reilly in joint second place on 34 points. The Autumn Challenge Cup game will be in November - details to follow in due course. Finally many thanks to all those who supported yesterday's game.RegardsMalcolm
Hopefully make the next one, then we can loose our balls together Mick.
