Great venue, course & food!

A great venue. Organised a society event and played both courses over two days. Staff were excellent and Simon (event mgr) couldn't have been more helpful. Great food and club house facilities also. Real gem!

Minchinhampton, Cherington Course

As I approached Minchinhampton, Glos, to play the newer Cherington Course the weather was damp and drizzly. Thankfully as we teed off the weather brightened up to reveal a smart parkland course, however, with many characteristics typical of a links course. The greens are wide and on the day fairly slow, due to the rain, but some tricky pin positions made them a good test. There are three Par 5's and a number of longish Par 4's , but all holes are well signed, with directions to the next tee. The clubhouse is warm and welcoming, and the menu, gives a wide choice of traditional and more exotic fayre, the home-made pizza's are especially recommended.

Lovely course, but a bit pricey.

I played the two new courses, but there is a third (the Old Course) which is apparently a few miles away.

These two newer courses are both really lovely, neither of which is especially easy from the white tees. I preferred the Avening course simply for the nicer views, but there's not a lot of difference between the two courses. The Avening has more of a parkland feel to it.

Despite the horrible winter thus far, the greens on The Cherington were very good. I imagine that given some decent weather that they would be quite exceptional. The Avening greens weren't quite as good, but to be fair they had recently been worked on.
