DESCRIPTION:

Mentmore Golf & Country Club, established in 1992, was set in the rolling countryside of Buckinghamshire near Leighton Buzzard, close to the A41 and M1. The club featured two 18-hole courses: the Rothschild Course, a par 72 at 6,855 yards known for its parkland layout with strategic water hazards, and the Rosebery Course, a par 71 at 6,660 yards with a more challenging terrain.

While the club is no longer in operation, it was highly regarded for its luxurious clubhouse and extensive amenities, including a health club and tennis courts. Nearby attractions included the historic Mentmore Towers and Woburn Abbey, which added to the club’s allure as a complete leisure destination.

Overpriced

I have now played both the Rothschild and Rosebery courses and of the two I pick the first. They are just fairly normal parkland courses that attract an over the top fee for playing. I was lucky enough to play both times on a Groupon voucher and both friends I played with were happy to play at the reduced rate, but neither would value a (weekday) round at worth more than £25 - headline price £50. The course yesterday (01/05) was still open even though it was near flooded at the start of the round and unplayable by half way round due to the torrential thunderstorm that came in. No shutting of the course because they would have had to give another round at a later date.

The clubhouse is very friendly with a good variety of booze and food. There is also Spa at the clubhouse, which appears very well attended. There are many people that rate this course highly, but the three of us over two days, forgetting the foul weather, do not think it is that good.
