Stunning

Whole course approaching A1 condition. This is a compact and tight course. Views are tremendous. Miss it at your peril.

Admittedly I played on a 'cheapish' completion day, but if the opportunity arises I will return.

A very good and enjoyable golf challenge

Aspley Guise & Woburn Sands GC (AGWS) is an undulating parkland course in Bedfordshire. The course is located just a couple of miles away from its illustrious neighbour Woburn GC. It is about a 90 minute drive from South West London.

The course was established in 1914. The club captain advised that it is regarded as the number two course in Bedfordshie, just behind John O'Gaunt. (Woburn GC is in Buckinghamshire).

The course is a modest 6,091 yards from the white tees and 5,746 yards from the yellow tees. We played the yellow tees. It was in magnificent condition, ie fairways, bunkers and greens. Light rain fell for a few holes mid round which didn't have any detrimental effect on the course. The greens were very tricky to judge line and pace. There are some tricky dogleg or blind tee shots to navigate and water/ditches were in play on a couple of holes.

I played the course as an entrant to the club's annual Seniors Open Stableford competition. The competition entry fee was £34 including coffee/bacon roll, 18 holes, a two course meal and coffee, and prizes. A wonderful VFM was to get to play such a lovely course. Normal midweek visitor green fees are £43.

The clubhouse is set above the course, which meanders down and away from either the 1st or 10th tees, and then feeds back uo to the 9th and 18th greens respectively. The biggest uphill elevation change was on the uphill par 5 8th hole. Otherwise the course is a reasonably civilised walk.

The club members and staff were very welcoming and they were wonderful hosts for the competition event. The catering was of an acceptable standard for the set meal.

This is a course that I thoroughly enjoyed playing and I will be hoping to be able to play next year competition also.
