An excellent but very hilly course

Elfordleigh GC is an extremely picturesque parkland course in Plympton, Plymouth, Devon.

The course is a short par 69 ; 5,458 yards off the yellow tees. The SSS is 67.

There are 6 par 3s; 9 par 4s & 3 par 5s. The course layout is unusual in that (1) there are 3 consecutive par 3s starting the back 9, (2) 3 consecutive par 4s finishing the front 9, and (3) the only par 4s on the back 9 are at the end of the round.

Individually all of the holes are of high quality; however the hilly nature of the course made it a very tough walk. Perversely the fact that there were so many downhill holes meant that I could coast my trolley battery and get to the end.

Without a course planner course navigation become a lottery on a few occasions. Very few of the tee boxes had illustrations of the hole layouts.

The club stepped in last minute to accommodate 10 SES members on the last day of our tour when a problem with our China Fleet booking occurred. Excellent! The £26 green fee was good value.

A buggy is highly recommended.

Staff in the pro-shop were very helpful. The post round food was good also. Especially with a 5 hours journey home afterwards.

Nice course, lots of hills

A nice, well matured course, rolling through the Devon countryside, made a lot harder with the amount of tress and water.
Recent alterations to the course appear to have left it very playable.
Pro was very friendly, as were the other clientele met around the course.
Take a few balls just in case and enjoy a nice game.
