DESCRIPTION:

Crowborough Beacon Golf Club, established in 1895, is a renowned heathland course set within 200 acres of the scenic Sussex Weald. Offering 18 holes of championship golf with a par of 71, the course is famous for its elevated position, providing panoramic views of the surrounding countryside, including the Ashdown Forest and, on clear days, the distant South Downs. The layout is challenging, with natural heather, gorse, and strategically placed bunkers demanding precision and strategy. The signature 5th hole, a downhill par 4, requires a well-placed drive to avoid trouble on both sides.

Crowborough Beacon is located near the A26, making it easily accessible from Tunbridge Wells and Brighton.

Nearby landmarks include the historical Crowborough Cross and the nearby home of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, author of Sherlock Holmes.

With its stunning views and challenging terrain, Crowborough Beacon Golf Club is a top destination for golfers seeking both beauty and challenge in the South of England.

Fantastic, highly recommended....

A fantastic course in the South Downs , near Ashdown Forest with superb views, all the way to Brighton on a very clear day so I was told.....

This is the 1st of 3 beautiful courses I played thanks to Yonex LPGT/Alex Nicholson/TSG, I did not take part in the competition but discovered the course at my leisure with Linda H.'s company, we had the privilege to be 1st on the Tee.

The course has a links feel, with lots of long carry over rough, heathers, gorse,, deep ravines, very mature and traditional in every way, sloping lies, fantastic greens very hard to master but a real pleasure when the putt sink in one or two. Lots of trees everywhere being so near the Ashdown Forest, The skies looked wonderful, not always sunny on the day but quite hot.

Again I did not play my full game due my injury, and I did not have all my clubs with me...but managed quite a few holes. There is a half way hut where Pimms & nibbles greeted the Ladies, In fact Linda and I made history as we were so far ahead of the groups that we set up the Table, prepared & sampled the Pimms !!!!!, the Organisers (Alex & David) were truly impressed by the TSG Ladies that they (Alex/David) remembered us & invited to their next Tour in Monmouth at very short notice ...That is another review coming up.

The course is tough, the rough evil and the ravines deadly! A true challenge in a superb setting.

The Clubhouse is very traditional with lots of memorabilia, with famous aristocratic names on their boards.

Very pleasant staff all around.

Great ladies changing room on the 1st floor.

The Buffet style meal after the competition was superb, all 1st class , compliments to the Chef for the presentation & freshness of the food.. We had the pleasure to share our meal with Ian Mullins and ladies golfers from very distinguished golf clubs from the South of England.

Large Visitors Car Park separate from the Members.

I highly recommend this course, a must on your list to play. Not cheap but worth it.

Watch out the page game as I plan to post a game when I have free time.

THE END......

Wonderful old course - must be played!

Ten of us played this course as one of our regular Saturday society games - green fees are £35 after 2pm which is great value.

It's situated on the South Downs which is a wonderful area for golf - and Crowborough Beacon is among the very best of them.

When you turn up you'll notice that the course feels very old, on mature sloping land, and oozes heritage. The guys in the pro shop were very down to earth and welcoming.

Every hole is different and every tee shot has an intimidation factor, with lots of rough / heather to clear - and most wild swings will result in a lost ball in trees / bushes that line the fairways.

It's definitely a course where you need to plot your way around. For most golfers I'd recommend 3 woods off tees and irons off fairways, to keep the ball in play.

Fairways had great spongy turf - really nice to walk and play off. You get plenty of roll and it's easy to run through the greens - take one less club and let it feed on.

Greens were also very good, though tricky to hole 10 footers or longer - you really needed to find the precise lines - but they were a good speed and true rolling.

An absolute gem - you could shoot a terrible day here if you were duffing shots into the evil rough - but even if you don't score well you'll love this course.

Well worth a visit some great views

This is a lovely course that is maintained to a high standard. Not many bunkers but one hell of a lot of heather,if your first time here suggest you buy a course guide as on some holes the heather is not visible and is right across the fairway in places. The greens were very fast and hard to read. All in all I would say that this is not a course for the high handicappers, Nice club house and a very friendly pro shop that is well stocked.

A lovely course with fantastic views

What a great course! Laid out across several wooded valleys on one of the highest points in East Sussex (the views are superb) the course doesn't have two holes the same and it certainly doesn't have any easy ones!

The staff were great, the course condition very good and using the Open Fairways or County Card made it good value for money (£26).

The greens are a little hard (so approach shots were hard to hold) and they are very fast and took some reading!

All in all, if you're driving straight and accurate (to avoid the gorse & trees and position yourself correctly for the approach on the dog-leg holes) and your approach shots come in high (to hold the greens) and you're on your putting game (very hard to read) then you'll score well. If not you'll just enjoy the course like the rest of us!

A good challenge !

Well worth a visit, especially if using Open Fairways or a County Card. A little hilly for the not so fit!

Play to your handicap around here and you have done very well.

Good mixture of holes, especially the par 3's. Makes you pay attention or it will bite you !
