Birch Grove friendly short course.

Birch is a very welcoming short course. Par 66. With small greens & tight fairways & lots of out of bounds. The greens were in good condition on the day. At £20 a round I feel it is a bit expensive but I think worth it.

A great 9 hole venue

Played here for the first time, and I was impressed with the whole venue,a great mixture of well laid out holes, using the contours of the land to create some very nice holes in particular par 5 6th.
In all this is a great little course, well kept all over, the greens where superb, fairways are good and the rough not to punishing.
It has a friendly club house, and the staff very helpful,it has a great bar menu not to pricey either.
I thought £12 was a bit expensive to start with but after playing the course,it was money well spent.
Its 35 miles or so journey for me to the course, and I shall be certainly going back.

Interesting 9 hole layout

Whilst Birch grove won't appeal to those who like a "regular" layout, it might to those who like a different challenge. With four par 3's, four short par 4's and a par 5, length is not it's appeal. What it has got in it's favour is a nice mature course in very good condition, with several outstanding holes. Most holes prove that length is'nt the only way to make you think how to play holes. With strategic bunkering and use of water hazards accuracy is definitely the key.

A modern compact clubhouse and pro shop offering a warm welcome are a good way to start and finish your round. There is a small practise area with a net, bunker and green, price for 9 holes was £12 which is not the cheapest deal around but is good if like me you hav'nt far to travel. I look forward to playing here again probably late Spring when the trees are in full leaf when i'm sure it will look great.
