won't be rushing back

On arrival first impressions, nice place friendly counter staff
the course however, grass on fairway often long for a fairway, tight course (too tight) as once off of the fairway by a few feet could be a lost ball, as the first cut is just Cabbage 8 inches high. Could be a course worth playing if looked after better and the rough near the fairways shortened dramatically.
Another downer was the information around the course, as it winds both sides of the road. We actually got lost, having to ask others where the next tee would be! Greens varied pace, some v slow others a lot faster causing many putting issues for all
Won't be rushing back any time soon, as we paid a price that would be for a decent course and we got a poor 1

Must try harder!

What a huge disappointment.
What promised to be a terrific afternoon round with great company was spoiled by the course conditions. When other nearby courses are being well maintained and starting to be a real pleasure to play on, Lexden Wood seems to have decided to apply "No Mow May" to most parts of the course. Tees, greens needed cutting. Fairways just about ok, if you were lucky with a couple of yards ( no exaggeration) of playable first cut rough. But then really thick uncut "meadow" and virtually unplayable everywhere else, if you could find your ball. We frequently couldn't. There appeared to be more bunkers as GUR, than bunkers in play. This might be more acceptable in winter but this was a May Bank Holiday weekend afternoon and being charged £30 for the pleasure.
There is also a distinct lack of signage, hole information boards etc to help those who haven't played there navigate their way round. Some holes have a trek between and is made more difficult without help.
This is all a shame as the course is local to me but I'm afraid I won't be going back anytime soon.

Lexden Wood, not one ill be returning to.

Clubhouse and hospitality all good, course is a pay and play, which shows, divets on the fairways and pitch marks on every green not repaired, on some of the holes it looks like the pins have not been moved for months. I was told this is a good course, thats why a gave it a go. Sorry guys but i will not be going back to this course, there are plenty of better courses available in the area.

Nice layout................

To start it would'nt be fair to comment on the condition as this was the day after some serious rain, that said the greens were in good nick and nice to putt on. The course is an interesting mix of different styles and types of holes laid out over some flat and some undulating terrain. Several holes make use of water as a hazard, either the river or ponds, others use plenty of bunkers. I enjoyed playing the course but what i was'nt so keen on was the long walks between a few of the holes and the trek from the 18th green back to the clubhouse. I felt the greenfee of £22 was a little steep for an afternoon slot given the weather conditions. Facilities are very good and include an on site American Golf, 9 hole pitch and putt, large driving range and a more than adequate clubhouse. Staff were very friendly, helpful and informative. I shall play here again but will wait for some better weather to see what condition the course will be in then.

Needs some work.......

Knew this course was going to need some attention as it was only redesigned last year but I think it has a long way to go before it can claim to be good value. The course itself has potential but having to play off stoney fairways (in places) is nobody's idea of fun and whilst the greens are good, the course suffers from being close too the A12 - far too noisy! A realistic price would be closer to £20 and not the £30 we paid. Wont be rushing back!

Improving - good for new golfers!!!

Since adding more holes this course has certianly grown from being the "family golf centre".
The course is open with challenges on some holes.
A good price and definitley one aimed for the higher handicapers! So give it a go!
