DESCRIPTION:

Founded in 1992, The Hampshire Golf Club features a stunning par-72 course that measures 6,665 yards, set in the beautiful rolling hills of Hampshire. This well-maintained course is known for its lush fairways and strategic design, providing a rewarding experience for golfers. The 5th hole, a par-4, requires an accurate drive to set up an approach to the well-guarded green. The signature 15th hole, a long par-5, offers opportunities for birdies but demands careful navigation around water hazards. The Hampshire Golf Club is committed to high standards of course care and offers a welcoming atmosphere for all players.

Conveniently located near the A31, the club is easily accessible and close to attractions such as the historic town of Basingstoke and the beautiful countryside of the South Downs, making it an ideal destination for golf and local exploration.

Has Potential but needs TLC

The course has potential and has some interesting holes, but the overall condition when we played it (26.09.21) was poor. The teeing areas were OK but not great, every bunker on the course was GUR and out of play. We were made aware prior to teeing off that three of the greens were in a bad way (13, 16, 17) and in truth they were almost unplayable.

The other 15 greens were OK but not great. They were very wet and a well struck wedge would plug upon pitching. The fringes of the greens were unkept and in some places the grass just three inches off the greens was four inches long and your ball buried. The fairways were OK.

The staff were welcoming and friendly but the bar and restaurant were both closed because they couldn't find any staff.

Because of these issues the green fees were reduced to £20 on a Sunday lunchtime. Very cheap by anyone's standards.

Would I recommend it? We had a good day out, the sun was shining and it was warm. We all played the same course so it was a level playing field. We enjoyed ourselves. But no, I probably wouldn't recommend it unless they can fix the problems I've detailed.

Lovely views but run down course

Views amazing! Customer service brilliant! But need a lot of TLC. Greens full of unrepaired pitch marks.

Could be better

The good: Excellent scenery, with an especially gorgeous stretch from 13 to 15.

The bad: The greens were very iffy and as slow as any I've been on this summer. Not sure what was in the bunkers, but I know it wasn't sand. No map on the card to let you know where the next tee was, and not enough signs on the course either.

And depending on your viewpoint: The fairways were generally huge, so you could let rip from the tee. The greens were tough to stop the ball on.

Favourite hole: You just have to enjoy hitting a good tee shot from the 15th.

If you get a good price then this is a great place to play. I think that with some TLC then it could be a lot better though.

Course was dry considering the amount of rain that week

Greens were quite good but the fairways were very dry.
Clubhouse staff very friendly to visitors. Paid £15. Was worth it.
