Better

Definitely a better experience than the last visit. Tee through green the course is in good condition. Usual problem with bunkers (covid!).

Clubhouse is warm and friendly, but the staff could do with a kick to get around the customers quicker. Food was excellent (Ham, egg and chips) Corona overpriced at £4.50 per bottle.

All in all worth the (wet) visit!

Ordinary

Clubhouse is good and welcoming. Pro shop is large and well stocked. Staff are friendly. Practice areas are good.
The course itself is in very good condition considering the baking it has suffered this year - tee boxes, fairways, bunkers all as they should be, greens are in excellent condition.

BUT - the course is very much the same/similar to so many others. It has no real features that make it stand out.

Would I play it again? Yes, but would not rush back as there are many more interesting courses out there that I will rush back to.

Good course with great practice facilities

This course has a modern (Crown Golf) feel about it. The driving range was one of the best I've used - interesting targets and quality mats. I was watching the golf pro run a Sunday group for the young children - looked fun, but I was too old to join in! Seriously if you live in the area and your youngster is interested in learning, check them out. Putting green was in good condition, lots of undulations and fast - again good for practice (fortunately the real greens were easier!)

Course was in good condition. Greens are protected by bunkers and the occasional ditch. Interesting these ditches don't contain water, but stones and rocks - a bit like a Zen Japanese garden? Yes the overall feel is a links style, but most fairways are quite wide, so the rough stuff can be kept out of the way (most of the time) There are a few "blind shots" A slight improvement would be to feature a hole plan at the teeing area - but an old fashioned (booklet) course guide is available in the pro shop, others will use their GPS, so navigation shouldn't be an issue.

Clubhouse is large modern with endless doors leading to conference rooms, gym etc. The bar is easy to find - and a large patio area

OK it's not small and traditional. But it is worth a visit.

Best drained course in the South East

After days of rain, I could not believe how dry the course was. Staff were so friendly. Food was average but the day was very reasonable. I was rewarded with a discount for being a club member elsewhere.
The course is tough very angulating, sloped fairways. In the summer you'll gets lots of run.
I do hope to play it in the summer months. The greens are well kept and also tricky with subtle borrows.
All in all very good value

Holes guarded by rills!!

Open course with a links feel to it with undulating fairways with an easy walk.
But if the wind is up it makes the course much more difficult.
At 6364 yards off the yellow it does not seem to play long?
With some holes guarded by rills (gravel ditches) and fairway bunkers so course management comes into play.
Some super 'driving' holes.
Greens true and in superb condition. Bunkers well sanded.
Club house & pro shop had friendly staff, with a large putting green, driving range, but sadly no chipping green.
Definitely worth playing, I would come back.

Defeated by weather... but still managed to get around

This year the society arrived to discover waterlogged front 9 - so no buggies - and twice round the back 9.

Fog (100yard limit) for the first 5 holes which prevented scenic views. Still managed a reasonable score around the course.

So not seen in its best light again (last year it was icebound)still we look forward to the next Winter Cup... not sure that we ought to return here in December/January - even though the claim is for it to be playable all year round.

ChesfieldDowns Golf Club

A Crown Golf Course they can be proud of. Well stocked shop, good golf range and nice large putting green.
Pretty open course laid out in rolling hills so plenty of elevation changes. Many of the greens well protected by ditches/streams and bunkers, so require a good shot in to get your par score. At 6364 yards off the yellows it plays fairly long, with 6 of the par 4's over 400 yards, so eat your weetabix before you go along! Course was in good nick when I played and is well worth a visit.
