One I've always wanted to play!

Hintlesham Golf Club is just in Suffolk and not far from Ipswich.

It's 150 acre's of heathland, tree lined with a little bit of water thrown in.

At 6060 yards it's a far challenge off the yellow tees. I've always wanted to give this a go, but normally it's £50 a round.

We (our society) got a discounted rate playing with a member. We paid £37 with a steak and ale pie after the round.

The surrounding scenery to the course is stunning with glimpses of Hintlesham Hall on the way round.

The course is not flat at all and has some elevated tees and some that have severe doglegs.

Plenty of bunkers on this course, I went in 8. But they were racked and plenty of sand in them.

I really liked this course, if you drove straight from the tee you had a very good chance of scoring.

The greens were quick-ish but ran true.

It was very dry when we played and you were reliant on a decent bounce.

I like to play it when the greens were a little more receptive.

But it was a lovely day in the sunshine.

Well worth the visit, I shall return...hopefully next year!

Parkland

The course in itself is quite an open parkland setting, but does not overly 'ring my bell'. For the price I would have expected more, but understand that this is the going rate for a course of this standard in the area, as unlike Essex you are not able to cross the county by stepping on golf courses!

That being said, the course is in excellent condition, apart from the usual dried out fairways (as is everywhere). The greens are in good nick, some unrepaired pitch marks, but that is down to stay and play guests.

Played on a special price voucher so feel a little mean knocking the prices, but the headline rate is a little to much for the course. Would play again, but only on a deal.

Lovely setting, well laid out and a good challenge.

The approach to Hintlesham Hall, the surroundings and the clubhouse give an impression of quality. From the practice green through the first tee to the last green and everything between I was not disappointed. I was particularly impressed with the flow of the holes which felt progressively more challenging well into the opening 9. Well maintained bunkers guard not only all the greens but also all the spots I wanted to aim my drives and although the greens appeared to have been recently hollow tined they were still very true and a good, consistent speed. Every single hole presented challenges from tee to green and I can appreciate that the elements will only add to the drama particularly on the higher, more exposed parts of the course. The pro shop was very friendly and well stocked, the changing rooms and showers were modern and clean and the bars were decent value, friendly and relaxing. Hintlesham Hall is a good hour and a half from me but I would happily make the trip again and would encourage anyone else to make the trip.

Nice Setting......

Played here a few weeks back and throughly enjoyed the course. A fairly open parkland layout with plenty of interesting holes. However, it is quite long and therefore may not suit the high handicapper. Overall it is quite flat but there are a few great holes, particular on the back nine including a 600 yards Par 5 to finish - ouch! Lastly, we had a great breakfast in a great clubhouse setting and if you get the chance say hello to the Club PRO, do - None other than Kevin Carpenter of http://kcgolfshow.com - check him out!
