Challenging course but let’s itself down

Kent and Surrey golf course has potential to be a really interesting and challenging course but it just lacks investment. The greens are clearly all suffering from some kind of disease so putting is a complete lottery. This needs to be sorted out and then it could well be worth a visit. The clubhouse looks like it has started renovation but no sign of much going on. No pro shop. Practise facilities are in a sorry state. Having said all of that it could be such a great course to play. I really hope someone spends some money on it soon. It is offering very cheap green fees and I guess you get what you pay for.

The whole course is rough (including the fairways)

You will see from other reviews that this course is not at its best, however I was told it's a good course that needs some TLC. I paid £15 to play on a Saturday with SES,. This has to be the worse course I've played in several decades, in fact I can't think of a worse course.

Practice facilities
Consist of a driving range which is all of 160yds, therefore you can't use your driver or most woods or hybrids, at £3.50 a bucket of balls this range is overpriced and pointless for practice in my view. I chose not to use this facility.

Practice green, there is one and you are able to putt and chip onto the green, however it's quite small and the green was diseased when I played, this sets the scene for the course.

Tee boxes
The teee boxes are scruffy and the grass was long, seems to be a theme for this course.

The rough, (I mean fairways)
If you get your drive away and land in the fairway you would expect to 1, be able to find your ball easily and 2 have a nice lie which would allow you to make good contact with the ball. On several holes my group had to spend time looking for balls on the so called fairway, and I along with others in my group could not find balls after hitting the fairway. When you did find your ball, very often you had a lie which would be regarded as the rough on most decent courses.

It appears that the fairways were not cut due to the wet weather recently, attempts had been made to mow the fairways, however this was not sufficient and the fairways was covered with grass trimmings. The ground staff appeared to be trying to mow the fairways whilst we were playing, however waiting until Saturday when you know the weekend will be very hot seemed madness to me.

The Greens
As stated previously the practice putting green was diseased, and this was the case on every hole, with the addition of some large craters on the green which assumed have been made by animals.

Course Lauout
The course itself is interesting with lots of hazards to think about.

Clubhouse
The clubhouse was nice and the staff were friendly, and I believe the food was OK from what I could see.

Conclusion
It's a shame as this course with its layout has such great potential, however the maintenance is non existent at the moment it's a club which looks like it's being run into the ground. If they can't afford to cut the fairways maybe they should buy some goats or cattle, the course as it stands is not playable.

I will not be returning here again and would not recommend this course.

Oh...

The first impressions of the club aren't great as you drive into the car park, and getting onto the first green there is little to change your opinion. I don't know what's gone wrong with them, but I don't ever remember playing on greens this bad before.

To their credit, the club acknowledges that they aren't great, and there's a sign on one of the boards saying that they are being worked on. That said, there is no mention of the tees, and some of those were in need of a lot of repair work too. Oh, and the bunkers were far from outstanding.

As for the course, there are some very nice looking holes, with the 14th & 15th holes springing to mind. I found a few of the holes on the front nine a bit bland though.

There are some tough, tough holes at Kent and Surrey, so a good score will need to be worked for.

Would I come back? It's an hour's drive for me, so I think it unlikely I will.

recent weather damaged

I didn't see the course anywhere near it's best, the recent bad weather has caused the course to be a bit under par, but some very nice holes and some with rather tight tee shots. Greens let this course down though, covered in moss. V nice clubhouse, and friendly staff. practice putting green wasn't like the course other than the amount of moss. I didnt look for anything else so no idea on other practice areas

Very nice course, worth a visit

First impressions are not too good, with the pot holed and poorly surfaced car park, but the club house is OK, except for the pro shop which is minimalistic to say the least, staffed by an individual who didn't appear to be that affable or too concerned. Nevertheless, an excellent full English can be had from a welcoming staff in pleasant surroundings. Facilities, changing rooms etc., are very good, and it was nice afterwards to sit on the large terrace, watching people trudging up the 18th, discussing the game over a drink.
The course begins with an uninspiring, very short par 4, a 5 iron or rescue club off the tee is more than enough for most...too early to take out the driver, although a driving range is nearby if you get there early enough. There follows an OK par 3, off a mat, as the tee mounds are completely overgrown and clearly have not been in use for years. Then comes a very short, 450yd par 5, and at this stage you begin to wonder if the drive round the M25 followed by winding country roads was worth it. However, from this point, the course improves immensely, with a long, difficult 200 yd par 3, and although the next hole is what appears to be a ridiculously short, 291yd par 4...all four of us managed to double bogey it, so beware.
The course then opens out and some beautiful and interesting holes come into play, with a little elevation in places, providing a lovely vista, enough to bring out the camera.
Many ditches, hazards and a fair amount of water comes into play on this course, so ball placement is key. It is not a course you can blast away at. Unfortunately not a lot has been done in cleaning away winter debris from the many water hazards, as many of them are quite overgrown and in need of a lot of TLC. Nevertheless, the tree lined fairways were excellent, nicely cut, and very lush with good quality grass. The greens were receptive, perfectly acceptable and very tricky indeed with their undulations making for awkward and difficult pin positions.
Altogether a nice little course, which needs to be played a few times perhaps to get to know it, and is not to be taken lightly. I will certainly make the effort to play it again.

Boggy but very enjoyable and great value

The course was very wet underfoot and all bunkers were advised as out of play with a free drop. Water hazards are very strategically placed and offer an exciting challenge. Each hole offers something to think about and makes you want to go back to the tee and have another go. Funny that! Breakfast and hospitality was excellent. The ladies changing room is spacious and clean, with an eclectic array of beauty products, hair stylers and toiletries. Looking forward to my next visit.

The Battle of The Somme...

Even muddier than Farleigh, course marshal told us the bunkers were out of play, and to free drop outside, lots of G.U.R., fairways ok, greens ok, clubhouse ok....breakfast was good, good value for £25.

Unconvinced......

Played this course following the positive reviews it had received on TSG and because of the incredible deal that was on offer (£8 per person). However, despite some very nice holes on this course, I remain unconvinced.... The course has a parkland layout with plenty of mature trees and some great 'vistas' and I really liked the fact that each hole was different and require some real thought in order to score well. However, the course is VERY scruffy in places with earth mounds scattered around the course, yet little sign of any work being done in some months. In addition, there were plenty of bunkers with grass growing in them and whilst you can allow for major works being incomplete, grass in bunkers in just lazy on the part of the greenkeepers and the club. The greens on the first fews holes were awful too but this did improve as we made our way around! Would I return? Not sure... it was great value at £8 but given the distance from my hometown and the remote nature of the course, I don't think I'll be rushing back! :-)

Tricky But Nice

Course quite tricky loads of ditches ! some bunkers had rakes in ! unlike those courses in Essex :-) Holes were quite long ,rough wasn't that bad ,but where they cut the rough down they did not pick up the cut grass making it quite difficult to find the small white thing (in some cases can be pink)I would definately like to return .

great course

The course has much improved since i was last there approximately two years ago.
Only went back because of invite and deal price but I'm glad that i did.
They have changed a couple of the holes and greatly improved the greens which were in very good shape.
There are a few challenging holes with lots of water features and it is quite a pretty looking course.
The course is also fairly flat apart from two holes which makes it not to challenging on the legs.
It is definitely worth a visit and if you play after 3pm its only 12 pounds for 18 holes

Tee off in Kent, Putt in Surrey (on the 5th)....

Great course. Great Deal. Great Day out + maybe 4 more recruits of the female kind. Hooray! Despite previous reviews (not too favourable) on Kent & Surrey GC, one TSGer was brave enough to post a game having found a special deal on Groupon. The 8 TSGers who atended were not disappointed by the course, on the contrary...

Some 6 miles away from the M25 (J6) along country lanes nestles Edenbridge and its golf course now called Kent & Surrey Golf Club has recently changed hands. Lots of improvements have been made (new 1st Tee by the Clubhouse) and are still ongoing to make this course even more attractive. One can see the signs on each hole with still a few to be replaced.

A large parkland with natural beauty, mature trees, wild habitat, some very pretty holes (14th, 15th, 17th to name a few), some long Par 3s (197 yrds), some short Par 4s (281 yrds), one long Par 5 (575 yrds) from yellow tees. Every hole offers its own challenges as water in form of pretty ponds (lots of wildlife), ditches, etc. comes into play on nearly every hole.

Some very tight gaps from tees to wider fairways with ponds & bridges. Rough is rough and makes it pretty impossible to find errant balls, so you may loose a few during your round !!! I did.

The bunkers appeared to have nice soft white sand apart from the few I visited which were of a compacted aspect making it very difficult to escape. All the greens had interested shapes, were in good condition, well cared for but not as fast as expected. The course is well designed taking into account the natural water features, it is not too manicured, interesting walks, good signage to the next tee, some uphill walks with breathtaking views of the Surrey/Kent hills!

We had a great day out, no one was disappointed, the weather was warm & sunny but with high winds we had to do battle with. Our Essex friends did bring the sunshine as requested. Well done to Robert W. for winning Nearest Pin on the short Par 3 (11th), shame about the putts, I wont mention how many or you will never speak to me again!!

The 4 balls behing us were Lady golfers who kept the pace, enjoyed their golfing day out & it only seemed appropriate for our handsome "surfer" TGSer to approach them at the end of the round & make a "brief" introduction to The Social Golfer (cards handed out). We do need some new lady members, so watch out for any new joining member from the Kent area.

Large Car Park. Friendly/busy Pro shop. Large bar/restaurant area with wide sunny terrace overlooking 1st, 18th and practice putting green/chipping area.
Net + driving range. Firendly starter man in a buggy by 1st Tee, some geese in the background by the pond.

Ladies section seems a pretty busy one going by the changing room's attire. We saw some Men ending their round as we went out. They seem a happy bunch.

We had a super deal: £11.00 for 18 holes with coffee + bacon roll. Thanks to Mark T. for organising. Please try the course and see if you can keep the same ball in play for the 18 holes!!!

THE END....

Leave the "hit & hope" game at home

Mature parkland course, with undulating fairways on a lot of the holes with water hazards on virtually every hole. Fairway bunkers & lateral ditches lay in wait on many of the holes, so thoughtful approach is needed if you wish to avoid the many hazards that lie in wait. Fairways were fine, greens were ok to poor but puttable.Sadly some bunkers had grass growing in them. Starting marshals, information boards, directions between holes excellent. Practise putting/chipping green, driving nets & friendly staff. I would recommend to everyone give it a go you wont be disappointed, but it is a tough track!

A nice surprise

I'll leave Brigittte, do an indepth review, but for my two pence worth..... On arrival the car park is good, club house and shop more than adequate. The course is in really good condition, and a real challenge which it proved for all 8 of us. Some great views, challenging holes, all of which are pretty long ( even the par 3's).
We had this on a bargain 8 ball with coffee and bacon rolls for a meer £88!!

Will defiantly play here again.

Fantastic layout....

Loved the layout, a great combination of interesting holes. The bunkers were in terrible condition and need looking at asap, the greens were ok but not great. Overall though I am definitely looking forward to playing it again, hopefully with a better front 9!

Kent & Surrey Golf & Country Club(was edenbridge golf club)

Ok,

I used to play here about 6 years ago, had a few freebees so you can never complain at that however I did ----------------------- greens used to be terrible and I mean terrible(worst ive ever played on) which was enough to spoil the course ----- toooooo fast and just couldn't get any tempo on them.

Roll on 6 years, set up the same, range looks like a shed -- pro shop the same so I can see how this course may have struggled but looking on the brightside the greens have improved BIG TIME.

They have slightly altered the first two holes, have moved the tee box for the first hole which makes it slightly shorter, 2nd hole now a par 3 not a par 4 which makes the course about 300 yrds shorter.

One thing with Edenbridge golf club I mean Kent and Surrey golf club is that every hole offers something different, you cant take this course for granted - to shoot to your handicap is a good score so be prepered to use every club in the bag!!!

If this club spent some more money on the tee boxes and trimmed up round the edges this for me would be a very very good golf course.

Hats off to Edenbridgr for sorting out those greens.
