Good course

Played here many years ago and was interesting to see the new layout. 1st hole(formally par 5) has been converted into a downhill par 3 which is so much better. All in all the rest is much the same as before except the atrocious rough has been nicely cut back. Overall well maintained, greens a little bumpy but still a very nice public course. I will be back.

good public course

It has a driving range and a large shop, it has some building work going on but not to much. For a public course it was really well kept, the greens were good, and it was an interesting test (which i failed!!!). Would definitely play there again.

In good condition

Can't understand why the last reviewer dislikes this course as I find it quite challenging and always in acceptable condition.Price for old gits on weekdays £12.At the moment the clubhouse is closed to golfers.

Won't play there again

A new layout, not the best quality,a lot of blind shots, personally I feel there needs to be a lot of work done on the course, not my favourite and won't be returning. It appears that the practice area is run by American golf and you need to buy a minimum of I think it was 50 balls for £5.50,even if you only want to hit a few balls

Undergoing changes

Major building work being undertaken. New clubhouse etc. So there is nothing in use at the time of review. For those who haven't played it recently, the course layout has been completely changed. Gone is the long par 5 at the start, instead a Kids Adventure Golf takes up a lot of this area (complete with canned animal noises) For those familiar with the old layout, you will find your way around, although no doubt your GPS will be looking at the old layout. Course planner is available, but for those who are new visitors and whose GPS is showing incorrect data, the following may help. Advance the holes to this setting. New holes 1-6 = old 10-15. New holes 7-13 = old holes 3-9. New holes 14-15 = old holes 1-2. New holes 16-18 same as before. So easier if you download a GPS update, otherwise make s note of this info before you start and it will allow you to change accordingly. . good luck. Still a good course Mon-Thu Senior rate is £12.50 and Senior buggy rate is £12.50 Mon-Thu

Second time out

Second time out with TSG and for this course also - I played it I'm guessing about ten years ago and i'm pretty pleased with it as its a great public course with a great variety of holes of all pars. Greens a re in great condition and the fairways are acceptable - all in all a reasonable course for a cheaper price

Good value if you have the patience

This is my local course and I've played it many times.

It's good value at £14 to £17 midweek. It's well laid out, the fairways are good, there are some interesting holes.

The greens are pretty poor. They look good but the grass is too long, they are very slow, and they have never recovered from the last aeration - still visibly bumpy after several months. They were open all through the wettest winter on record which might be a factor.

However the main problem at Trent Park is slow play. If you think your club has a slow play problem come to Southgate to see how slow play has become an artform.

I have seen a 4-ball made up of Daddy, Mummy, and two kids of 8 and 10. The 8 year old's 20-yard hacks made Daddy look bad.

I've seen a male/female 2-ball with new boyfriend teaching new girlfriend to do golf for the first time, with one set of clubs between them, and plenty of what 1970s swimming pool signs would euphemistically refer to as 'petting'.

The clubhouse was built in 1971 and looks every bit of 43 years old. The service is friendly but they have two different companies doing food and drinks - you can't order both from the same person. Seriously.

I have a season ticket at Trent Park which I will not be renewing, mostly because of the pace of play and the greens. By the standards of public golf courses it's pretty good, but otherwise it's pretty average.

so so for £27 I guess

Course most definitely has some challenges on it, but we played with many temp tees which some were awful, but I thought the course was quite well sculptured, and some tricky placements needed on some of the tees. The practice green was slower than the course which is never good, didn't have time to check out if they had a range or not. You need to get inside that 10 foot circle on most greens to have a chance of birdie, as the greens have much to read and a good contest to the putter. Clubhouse was ok, if you didn't mind the floor bowing up in places, but after the round, I found the bar lady wasn't very interested in serving us the way you'd expect. We have played better for less on a saturday, but probably played worse for the same cost or more. If weekday is a good price, it is well worth playing.

Well presented - Public Course, scenic parkland

Easy enough to find, this is a mature parkland course - showing sings of care and attention and ongoing maintenance. Some tee boxes under repair did not detract from a good experience. Well laid out - this is a course well worth the visit. Interesting holes (with some surprises for the unwary - watch out for hidden ditches).

Undulating fairways - well manicured and nice approaches to the greens (some protected by bunkers with a nice layer of sand). Uphill and downhill making use of the countryside, with good views from most aspects.

Trees are well positioned - designed to catch the errant drive - encouraging straight hitting... big hitters can easily get away from fairways, so recovery shots come into play, especially when ditches are in play.

All in all a good course, good exercise up and down the hills (but not too taxing) we played on what seemed to be a popular day, consequently this was a slow round... I can imagine it being an even better experience without the 'hold ups'. Good catering facilities, and nice half way house...

Staff were more than pleasant and most helpful, with a good pro-shop on site and high quality practice facilities.

A public course that compares well with some member's clubs... and nice to see that pitchmarks on some very interesting greens, were repaired rather than left...

short but testing

Have played it before and as usual on a Saturday it will be a 5 hour round, however as it was a lovely day it wasn't too bad. Greens had just been treated so were a bit bobbly and slow but i;m sure will be fine in a week or two. Course generally in good nick and although only 5800 yds off the forward tees can be quite tricky. Certainly worth playing but would try for during the week

Wow what a course

What a course, just on the outskirts of London, but once on the course you would think you were in the middle of nowhere. It is a testing course and on the day I played in May, it was in fantastic condition. The course undulates up and down and is quite a testing walk, the fairways were cut like wembley and the greens were great. Whoever looks after this course should be given a gold medal. The sand in the bunkers was clean and stone free with a good layer of top white sand. Some of the tees are in a fantastic position. For a public course, this in my view is as good as any private run course I have played. Great day out! These are only my views, I hope you get to play it and feel the same.

Interesting, well laid out course

Enjoyable round at this north London course.

Rolling hills make it a fair walk (lots using buggies). Condition was generally good, although tees could have done with a tidying and some of the previous players hadn't raked the bunkers. Greens were excellent considering how dry it has been.

Only trouble was a fourball of members that wouldn't let our twoball through despite several opportunities.

Thought £20 was just about right

Trent Park, August, 2009

A case of you get what you pay for. Not the most testing of courses, but all too frequently, good shots are not rewarded as a ball could bounce anywhere, fairways undulating, many ruts and banks, uphill and sidehill lies are the norm...even on the tee mounds which is particularly annoying. Quite hilly so powered carts are a must for seniors. Greens are good however, but never expect to hold with an approach shot as they are meadow greens and generally very hard.
Frankly I wasn't inspired and lost interest half way round so posted a poor score for the back nine. It will be a long time before I play it again.

Trent Park

Trent Park is open to the public and as such is open to abuse, but I have to say it is currently in fine condition. At this time (April 09) the fairways and greens would grace any private members club. This must be one of the best public course in the SE. We teed off at noon and got round in a very respectable 3 1/2 hrs. Give it a try, but avoid shool holidays and weekends unless you have plenty of time.

Excellent public course

Perhaps the best public course I have been on - better than many private courses I have played. Can be very slow at weekends though

Lovely Little Gem!!

Being almost opposite Oakwood Underground Station, its easily accessable to all. The only real downside to this course is its very hilly therefore exhausting!! Buggies are available so that problem is solved for less fit players!! Other then that, this is a lovely course to play with a real variety to challange your game. A GREAT all round venue to visit!!
