If you Like Traditional Links

Old style links, between the dunes, some climbing, but second nine goes along the coast out to a pretty par 3 overlooking the Castle - good views.
If up there worth a visit.
Club house, nice, more of a bar / café atmosphere - Proper Golf

World Class Experience

Where do you begin when you try to describe a day at Dunstanburgh Castle Golf Club. Is it the warm friendly atmosphere, the stunning views or the course itself? Perhaps its the extra cream they put on a hot chocolate or the fact that the green staff give you a wave as they go by.
For me its all of the above. I have been fortunate to celebrate 4 birthdays in January over the last 6 years playing the course which is an extra treat but its the mystic of the Castle that really leaves one in awe.
You start off playing away from the Castle only to turn towards it and when getting to the elevated tee on the 6th you know you are in golfing Nirvana. With the surf pounding the beach to your left and the Castle a couple of miles off in the distance this true majesty of links golf says "Welcome".
For me golf is links golf, full stop. The thought of running a low shot in from 60 yards or more and watching it hug the contour of the meandering fairway is pure bliss. Will it get to the hole, run past or rest within a few inches? This is an experience that cant be duplicated with the modern target style golf where everything is about the ball in the air and imparting spin on an approach shot.
You get to number 13 " A little flick" I personally call it and you stop and ponder. On a quiet day we grab a bite of a sandwich or take a break for an apple and just gaze. You could put any golfer in the world on this course and they would feel blessed to play it, I know I do!
Sincerely,
Bill

What a lovely course (if you can find it!)

I was lucky enough to play this course as part of a society group back in the summer. Laid out in Embleton Bay, the course clims the hill to the Northern cliffs, then comes back down the coastline and clims to the ruin of Dunstanburgh Castle on the Southern cliff. The course designer (don't know who) did a superb job of using the natural terrain to great advantage and, what a bonus, you get breathtaking views from virtually every hole. The clubhouse was small but very friendly and all in all definitely one to go out of the way to play.
