Hard to fault

Okay, so it might just be because of my best round of the year that I'm saying this, but I don't think so. Just turning up you can tell this is a lovely course, and after you've got a couple of holes under your belt your opinion won't have changed.

This isn't an easy course, the tree lined fairways see to that, but it's not mean and scary either. There are some lovely holes here, with a good mix of short and long par 4's. The par 3's are all a visual delight, and the one par 5 is a good birdie opportunity.

The course is very undulating, so perhaps not the easiest of walking courses, but it's not really what you'd call a slog.

The staff in the pro shop were incredibly welcoming, and the lunch I had was excellent.

Seriously, after one round I'm now a big fan of this course, and I hope to be playing here again soon.

Really good course, played well and the greens were superb. A challenging course well worth the green fee.

Felt Long, Played Long!

Well loved the course itself, again like Mannings Heath it was pretty cut up and made getting grip and being comfortable very difficult. The course was pretty long and many of the Par 4s challenging for me. I liked the layout and would definately play this again in the summer.

CONTINUES TO IMPROVE

Please see my Sep10 review for more detail. Played here again today and the course was in even better condition - the greens especially were really excellent for a "pay and play" course which sees very heavy footflow. Recently taken over by Mytime Golf - hopefully the improvements will continue. Green fee now £19 (£14 for Seniors) but still good value.

SUPER MUNICIPAL

This course has always been regarded as one of the best municipals in the country. I started playing here some 20 years ago and the return today, in perfect conditions, brought back fond memories - it also reminded me how much I have improved in that time despite the regular frustrations that we all suffer! Most holes are tree lined and straight but there are regular elevation changes to add variety. I was pleasantly surprised by the excellent condition throughout (tees, fairways, greens, bunkers) which was much better than many more expensive courses that I have played this year. £17 green fee is super value even though the Clubhouse/changing rooms are basic to say the least. Recommended.
