Great improvements & excellent condition

The course is looking splendid with rhododendrons in full bloom, superb fairways, greens & fringes, some holes have been slightly remodelled :

Hole 1, removal of 1st bunker on left, ditch before the green re-instated, with 2 little bridges to cross over , some red stakes.

Hole 14: new pond at the bottom of the downhill Par 5, mainly to collect water as it was always a “wet” hole.

Some bunkers removed on hole 5, 10, some bunkers remodelled on many holes, being deeper , more sand , with grass slopes/edges, eventually that is going to be done all over the course.

Some indexes have changed on 4 holes I think, all to do with WHS/slope/course rating.

Today, was International Women’s Golf Day and Silvermere was the venue chosen for Women & Golf Magazine ‘s Ladies Open. A great day out on a much improved course, great company , lovely welcome, the sun was shining all providing an enjoyable golf day.

Some very good scores & lots of prizes, Teams & individuals.

Always a difficult to get a good score

Course is tough and really have to play for position otherwise you will be carding a big score. Greens have been better and fairways well maintained.

Of course the 17th & 18th are holes that make it all worthwhile (Both over water and leading to clubhouse) especially if you manage to par them both.

Well worth a visit to really test your game and see if on train is really as good as you think

Dont rush!!!

Played here yesterday. I always believe in customer service and having a nice feel about a club . . . . .so to be met by the grumpiest starter ever in the starters hut did not get off to a good impression. I soon picked up that other members of his own staff know that he is a miserable individual!! nevertheless we soldiered on. Finally got out on the course . . .after being told that I would have to delay as the 2 ball supposed to be in front of me was late due to traffic!! Not my problem Mr Misery!!

Course is a bit worn in places and some of the tee boxes are ridiculous. Teeing up on not much grass! Otherwise the course was pleasant as I had not applied it for a few years. Some great challenging holes .. some very similar holes but overall a nice track.

However the pace of play was abysmal!! It really did put me off going back there. A number of group behind my 3 ball sacked it and walked in!!

It has a superb driving range and more people seem to go for that plus the 60% off outlet store on the top of the the complex is fantastic. i could spend a fortune in there.

Will probably go back but will try and miss Mr Miserable and try and get round in a decent time!!

Silvermere

Played on 28th September, fine day weather wise, very unhappy with the state of the greens. Black patches everywhere, all greens in very poor condition, should have been using temporaries (only temp green was at the 1st hole), as the amount of golfers on the course was damaging them even more. Not great value for money at £30 a round.

A real difference since improvements started......

Silvermere was my Golf Club for many years. Quite tough for "starter high handicapper", so when I join the TSG family, I give up my Membership.

It is a course I like very much for many reasons despite some very long Par 5s, and the 2 punishing/rewarding final water holes (17th/18th).

Some improvements were being made when I left. The new Greenkeeper and his Team have been very active and the course is now at its BEST ever.

I played there last week (31.7.2014) and I thoroughly enjoyed what I saw and noticed:

- Every Tee box has a smart wooden sign, with yardage, layout etc., ball cleaner and when necessary some new steps to the Tees.

- New Tee box at the Par 3, 9th hole making it a superb Par 3.

- New Ladies Tee box at the exquisite 17th, Par 3 over the water. Our new tee box is on the water.

- Improved signage, specially so tothe 7th hole + others, over the road.

- Good clearing of woods/bushes, so on the tight holes, it is easier to look for errant balls.

- Fairways in excellent condition, and cut grass is picked up.

- Some bunkers have been re-designed, re-positioned for the better.

- Stroke indexes have consequently changed and the new Course Planner is not yet available.

- 1/2 way hut (by the 8th) opens every day, except Mondays & Tuesdays.

- Food & drinks very pricey but the outside terrace is the place to savour the 19th hole in full view of the large lake and 17th & 18th Greens.

- The new 2 tiers driving range is superb, spacious and certainly makes Silvermere even more attractive to golfers.

- The short game practice area has also been re-designed for the better.

- The practice putting green by the Starter Hut/1st tee is in great condition. The artificial chipping area takes some getting used to...

- The large Proshop has been re-fitted and it feels more spacious too, with a dedicated golf shoes shop.

- Worth mentioning: The Left Handed Golf shop has now its base at Silvermere and it is a paradise for us "lefties".....Good deal to be had, also a free 30/40 assessment of your golf swing or a fee paying one with all the modern technology. Your choice.

- Club repair shop offering all the services: new grip, shaft, etc. etc..

Staff very friendly & helpful.

So very well done to whoever got all the improvements into place, and of course the new Greenkeeper and its Team: it is making a real difference to one's golf experience at Silvermere. How can one not love this course ?

I may consider re-joining when my Membership at The Short Game Academy/Hapmton expires as I need a CONGU handicap to open the doors to the competitions I want to take part in and also get my Surrey County Card which the TSG does not offer yet.

The above are my very personal view, do join any games posted at Silvermere and see for yourself.

Excellent Golfing Challenge

This is an excellent golfing venue in terms of practice facilities, the golf shop, club repairer and catering facilities, though the food pricing is 'expensive' like that of a pub/restaurant and not of a segregated golf club catering facility. Service and food quality is generally very good. The course a mixture of tight parkland holes; open parkland holes, long par 4s and 5s and two nerve-jangling finishing holes over water. Some parts of the course are soft/wet in the winter months compared to other courses. Your game has to be at its best to play to your handicap. Although I am a frequest user of the driving range for practice I have not played the course much; though would very much like to; this has been more to do with the fact that it is the best pay & play type course in the area, is very busy midweek and at weekends and green fees are seldom on reduced offer.

Lots of improvements all around......

The warm, sunny Spring day weather & the recent improvements made Silvermere resplendent as never before.
The best conditions I have seen Silvemere Golf course in the last 6 years, maybe due to the new Greenkeeper and his firm plan.

The fairways nicely cut & fairly dry only a few damp/soggy patches but nothing like in the past, not too many divots (it is a Pay & Play) only a few unrepaired pitchmarks on the greens who were good, very few spongy places. Th Yellow, white & red marker posts seem to have disappeared though and I dont know why.

Lots of improvements are being made and they are apparent: new steps to the tees boxes, brand new tiered Tee box at the 9th, the apprearance of the retaining walls of some ditches, clearing of some woodland, trees loped, there is a plan to improve the bunkers as well, etc....

The 17th & 18th looked superb as you approach ( a picture postcard) fantastic 2 finishing holes to look forward to. The 17th Ladies tee box is going to be re-build as an island, very shortly.

Today 5th March 2013, the outdoor terrace by the Lake was buzzing with people lunching or golfers enjoying their post round drink.

If you play Silvermere in the near future I hope you appreciate the ongoing improvements being made to make your round even more pleasurable.

Well worth a visit for anyone who has not played there.

Not quite what it appears

Silvermere has been on my "to play" list for some time - thanks to an invite from Brigitte the opportunity came today. I agree with much of what has been said by previous reviewers although I do not rate it as highly. There are some lovely holes (6 & 17 in particular) but many are ordinary and there is an "up and back" feel to the stretch (7-16) over the road. I was also disappointed in the conditioning of the course - the bunkers and their surrounds were terrible and in places there was an "overgrown" look to things (although the greens were fine). Having said all of this I still recommend that you go and form your own opinion - the guest rate of £23 is certainly decent value.

Silvermere is looking good....

The recent rain, the winter clearance, the hollow tining are paying rewards and the course looks mangificient.

The ball was not running as it should do as there was still quite a lot of water on the fairways and it was raining most of the round, but the greens were in good condition and fast.

A small group but an enjoyable round despite being stuck behind some slow coach, no, NOT the 4 Ladies in front, but the 2 balls and 4 balls in front of them...

A welcoming and pleasant clubhouse overlooking the splendid 18th over the lake....

Am returning there tomorrow, I think I am playing in a Competition, so it was a nice warm up.

Short review for a change....

Interesting challenge

May be a bit partial as Silvermere is my Golf Club.

Interesting parkand course, quite long with streams, ponds and lakes to overcome. 17th and 18th are quite thrilling as water attraction could ruin your card if you dont make it over the lake, but they are splendid. the 6th is my favourite as there is a raised Tee and a sloping fairway left to right and a long green.

Greens not as their best at the moment, but the course is looking well looked after, a lot of clearing has been done, still need a little more irrigation on some fairways but a good effort has been made.

The Clubhouse and its terrace overlook the Lake and the 18th where one can watch a few splashes..... Good selection of food, some people just come to Silvermere to "do lunch" at the Inn on the Lake.

The PRo shop is one of the biggest in Surrey and is well stocked, one could spend hours selecting the latest golf clothings and there are always special offers and discounts available to tempt you.

Big driving range and a large number of teaching Pro available either individual lesson, group lesson or roll up, just check website.

Quite a difficult course for high handicaper because of the water/hazards, can be busy on a Friday and Weekend and in the summer as it is a Pay and Play.

Good venue for a Society day.

Come and try Silvermere

Arch Nemisis!!!

Have generally found this course hard. Long in places, tight in others, over water near the end when your on your last legs!!!! Course is interesting but I feel maintenance has gone a bit down hill? (maybe its just cos its autumn).

Facilities excellent, range, puttering green, chipping/bunker area, large shop etc
