Very nice course

Very nice course, lots of tees where you can't see the green. Greens in very good condition with lots of undulations. Would happily play here again

It’s okays

An average course to be honest. Decent enough layout but some of the holes seem pointless to the average golfer. The 8th hole in my opinion is a joke hole. A nice drive is rewarded with either a large wedge over 5 extremely tall oak trees or try and punch under. Just seemed pointless. A lot of the holes on the front 9 have large run offs to the left due to the very sloping fairways being on a hill. There is so much long grass just off the fairways that you spend half the round looking for balls! Even if you just run into the grass you can more or less say goodbye to your ball! Saying that I found more than I lost.
Will play it again as my mate is a member but I won’t rush back. Better courses charging a bit less in the area to play.

Enjoyable - Recommended

Surrey Downs is an enjoyable challenge; the SSS off the white tees is par 71. The white card is about 500 yards longer than from the yellow tees. The course and greens are in great shape despite the recent poor weather. Good scoring is very possible but so are high scores. There are excellent practice facilities and the catering is excellent qualify and vfm.

Open course, tricky greens

Young course runs with the terrain making a number of blind drives round the hill on the front 9. Hit above the marker post if you're long or you'll lose it in the rough. Play short and you could score well.
The tricky part is the greens - large, fast and curvaceous. Definitely worth getting the pace sorted out early on.
A warm welcome awaits in the modern clubhouse with good facilities. A club geared to more informality than some of its more traditional neighbours.

Lovely course, great facilities

Played here yesterday on a Charity / Corporate Day

Nicely maintained, very open course, excellent greens given the recent weather.

Lovely modern clubhouse, excellent food.

Only problem, its 1.5hr drive from home :)

Worth a visit

I played Surrey Downs towards the end of autumn and really enjoyed my trip there. From the yellows the course isn't as tricky as I thought it might have been, certainly not as tricky as the course website suggests, although I imagine that with the longer rough it would be a tougher prospect. Fortunately, when I played there it looked like the rough had recently been cut back for the winter.

I enjoyed the par 5 5th hole, which was very scenic with the autumn foliage from the trees along the left hand side of the fairway. That said, there are a number of wonderful viewpoints from various holes on the course. It does get very exposed on windy days though.

Where the course let itself down was the condition of the greens, which had recently been spiked, and the bunkers which seemed to have builders sand in them.

The clubhouse was very welcoming, and the bar had a decent selection of food to choose from.

I wouldn't have wanted to pay full price for playing here, but the deal we got made it a bargain.

Surrey Downs

I had big expectations of Surrey Downs GC, with its neighbouring rival golf club Kingswood next door I wanted big things.

Driving down the drive to the clubhouse you get the initial impression its open = which it is.

Pro shop very friendly and are now on thw 241golf scheme so at £15 a round this was a bargain.

I couldn't say that there are any spectacular holes but the layout was enjoyable, the right distance for Par 4's, and Par 5's which proberley explain the longer distance for par 3's.

The greens are superb and in immaculate condition, very fast which i had been told about before i had played.

£30 a round without the vouchers may have been a little too much but at £15 a round this is one of the best value round of golf that i have ever had.

hats off to Surrey Downs and I hope you don't get too much riff raff at your club -------- I know what your thinking ============ Snob ------------ i don't care.
