DESCRIPTION:

Walton Heath Golf Club, located in Surrey’s picturesque Walton-on-the-Hill, is celebrated for its rich history and two outstanding 18-hole courses. The Old Course, a par 72 spanning 7,462 yards, is famed for its heather-lined fairways, challenging layout, and strategic bunkers, offering a true test for golfers of all levels. The New Course, also a par 72, provides a slightly different challenge with its varied terrain and stunning views, making it an excellent companion to the Old Course.

Walton Heath’s storied past includes hosting the 1981 Ryder Cup and numerous European Opens, cementing its reputation as a prestigious venue that beautifully combines history, challenge, and natural beauty for a memorable golfing experience. Some of the greatest golfers in history, including Jack Nicklaus and Seve Ballesteros, have played at Walton Heath.

The club is easily accessible via the M25 and A217, making it a convenient spot for golfers from London and the surrounding areas. Nearby, visitors can explore the scenic Box Hill, a popular spot for walkers with panoramic views of the Surrey Hills or visit the charming market town of Reigate with its independent shops and cafes.

Walton Heath, very nice indeed

Was a guest in a society, course was in very good condition, greens were great, layout very nice. Quite tough, but fair. A really enjoyable experience playing here, would strongly recommend to all. Food at clubhouse was excellent, and facilities were excellent. It is pricey, so for those who can afford it, marvellous, for those who struggle, save up and treat yourself to a great day out.

Great course with some longish par 4 holes

Played the Old Course and it was in prime condition. Greens were needless to say fast and had some interesting slopes. On first appearances the course looks quite easy. Big mistake as it has a way of catching up with you. Not as much heather as I thought there would be but still managed to find some plus some challenging heather ringed bunkers. A group of us went out and the accurate player did better than the big hitters. Great day out

Superb heathland course with Ryder Cup heritage

Staight at the pin with a rescue club at the first, a long par 3. If only I'd stayed with that club all round. Trouble is it's 6786 off the whites so you feel you have to knock it up there, or else play them all as par 5s. You can play out of the heather if you find your ball, but there's a big premium for finding the fairway.
Bathed in tradition with princes and parliamentarians as past presidents, the club offers oak-pannelled dining rooms and unassuming, traditional service. The putting green is like the benign back lawn of some country house but the heath can be brutal if the wind blows. You are playing a course where Europe lost the Ryder Cup to a superb American team in 1981. Play like Tom Watson here and you'll be OK. If not, just enjoy the views and try not to hear the thunder of the M25 around the turn.
