Great Course Great Condition

Parkland course with some narrow treelined fairways. Course was in excellent condition on the day, and well maintained. Bit on the pricey side for a round but definitely due a revisit.

Lovely Course

Driving past West Byfleet GC on the A245 gives little away of the delights it has in store, and even once you're in the car park there's little to get excited about. However, once the course comes into view you just know that you're at one of the nicer courses that Surrey has to offer.

The course is very much tree lined, although I don't remember many holes where the trees made the fairways tight. Not that there aren't any tricky tee shots, because the large number of very well maintained bunkers means that you'll still have to hit good shots to hit the fairways. The greens are also well protected by bunkers. Water (I think) only comes into play in front of the pretty, and tricky, par 3 13th.

As for the condition of the course, the fairways were great, the greens were excellent, and the fairways don't let the course down either.

I would say that all standards of golfer would enjoy playing here.

The only downside to playing here is the huge number of trains that thunder past the course, but perhaps that isn't the worst thing in the world.

I didn't use it, but that clubhouse looks really lovely, and there's a well stocked pro shop with a warm welcome for visitors.

West Byfleet is a course that'd been around for 112 years by the time that I finally got to play it, and after playing it once I'm now hoping I don't have to wait quite as long to visit it again.

A beautiful and challenging course

West Byfleet GC is a par 70 parkland course in West Byfleet, near Woking Surrey. It is located close to Pyrford, Twisted Stone (oka Traditions) and Hoebridge golf clubs.

It is a traditional members course establishwed in 1903.

I played the 6,197 yards white tees. The course is in magnificent condition; the green were of various sizes and slopes and were difficult to read in terms of lines and pace. All tees are close to the previous greens so there is no excessive on course walking. There are 6 par 4s in excess of 400 yards.

The midweek visitor green fees are £55 or £35 with a County Card. I played the course by entering their annual Seniors Open Stableford Competition. The competition entry fee included coffee, 18 holes, a two course lunch, coffee and prizes. A truly excellent VFM way to play the course.

There is a lovely halfway house a short walk from the clubhouse.

The competition was highly organised, ie the best I have encountered this year, involved a home club member grouped with three visitors, off a shotgun start. My host member was marvelous in terms of on course advise, playing quality, and hospitality.

This is a course I've known about for years, I have clubs in the bag bought from their pro-shop, and wanted an opportunity to play. I wasn't dissappointed but was instead very pleased. I hope to play it again soon, hopefully before next years competition, and I heartily recommend that you play it if you get a VFM opportunity.
