DESCRIPTION:

West Chiltington Golf Club, formerly located near Pulborough in West Sussex, was a cherished golfing destination until its closure. Known for its picturesque 18-hole course set within the charming Sussex countryside, the club was accessible via the A283 and close to the South Downs. While the course no longer operates, the area remains popular for its scenic walking trails, vineyards, and proximity to historic landmarks such as Petworth House and Gardens.

Though the club has closed its doors, the legacy of West Chiltington lives on in the memories of those who enjoyed its tranquil fairways and welcoming atmosphere.

Ok, so the review.

I really like this course. Don't get me wrong it has it's problems.
1. For a start the £34 green fees that show up all the time are too steep, for this course.
2. The back nine has three parkland style hole all in a row that are next to identical.
3. The front nine is so much more interesting to play than the back.

Good point:-
1. It would appear that there has been some changes to staff/ownership. Not sure of the details but all of the staff, especially the pro shop were very friendly and helpful.
2. There appears to be a new greenkeeper, who seems to be doing a lot of work around the course, including filling bunkers and making some changes to the layout.
3. Front nine is a lovely stroll through the trees. Keep it straight, and you have no issues. Don't think your way around and fail big time.
4. Quiet course that is very pretty.

Interesting points.
1. The greens were so very hard to read. Totally innocuous but seemed to have turns that weren't there, making in fun and frustrating all in one.
2. In conversation at the pro shop, the layout is being considered, which hopefully may include a change to those pesky three holes.
3. There are lot's of new membership options, and pricing deals being brought in to bring in new players.

All in all, it's a nice course, if played at the right price. Technically not too challenging if you stay on course, but beware if you stray. You may like it, you may not, but it's definitely worth a go, at least once.

LOVELY COURSE

This is a course of two halves. First half was in parkland and quite tricky. The rest of the course was open and had wide fairways. Wonderful course and I would defintely go back.

Will return to conquer the GREENS !!!!

West Chiltington is a "true gem" in West Sussex as the course guide says. 1st nine holes, up & down hill, tight fairways, one can see lots of balls on the wrong fairways.... it is better to duck as you hear "FORE", well placed bunkers, excellent design, very interesting to play. The panoramic views are superb, being near the sea, one can feel and smell the sea air. Last 9 holes, totally different as it is flat and easier to play, wider fairways and shorter holes, but just as pretty and well laid out. All the GREENS were extrmely difficult to read all along the way. The course was in very good condition, excellent value for money after 12.00pm on a Sunday is only £10.00, well worth the drive from Twickenham. Will return to conquer the GREENS.
