River Wilderness Country Club, a private, member-owned golf and boating communityopened in1985.
The club is set in a secluded position which borders the north shore of the historic Manatee River and is convenient for both Sarasota and Tampa Bay.
The 18 hole, 7100 yard golf course (with a slope rating of 130)was designed by Ted McAnlis. It islaid out on 150 acres of relatively flat Florida land with some man-made mounding creating contrasat. The major attraction of the course is demonstrated by the fact thatit earned theaward of being part ofthe Audubon Cooperative Santuary System which blends the property withanatural wildlife habitat.
The course hasfairways and greens of bermuda grass, water hazards and lots of bunkers.
