Southern Dunes Golf & Country Club,designed by Steve Smyers and built in 1993, is recognised as one of the best public golf courses in the Orlando area and was ranked 6th in Golf Digest's 'Best Courses in the State' and ranked as one of the 'Top 10 Courses built in America 1987-1997' byLinks Magazine.
The course was built on thesite of an orange grove that was killed by frost in the mid-1980's. The soil is largely sand based which allowed the designer to easily moveearth to create exactly the run of fairways and hazards whichhe originally envisaged.
As a consequence Southern Duneshas a sculpted look with large mounds, ridges and hollows plus over 180 bunkers (there are 10 surrounding the green at the Par 3 eleventh!)
The course is golf buggy only (no walking) and visitors are always welcome (contact club to make arrangements).
