TPC at Heron Bay Golf Club, designed by PGA Tour player and golf architect Marck McCumber and openedin 1996, was the centrepiece of a massive residential development covering 1,500 acres. The course itself covers approximately 240 acres and is separated from the, generally very large, homes via canals and lakes.
Thecourse was sympathetically laid out to suit the surrounding topography and so it isrelatively flat withwide fairways and huge greens of bermuda grass and, rather surprisingly being set on the edge of the swamp, water only comes into play on 3 of the 18 holes (unless you are very wayward). What does come into play regularly on every holeis the bunkers, over 100 of them and some very large indeed. To avoid thebunkers demands driving accuracy, good club selection and some luck! Once on thegreen the trick becomes one of reading the suble breaksand getting the pace right on these huge tour speed greens.
Home to the Honda Classic from 1997-2002 and now the home of the prestigious Dixie Amateur the course can be made to play extremely tough (especially when the wind is blowing) or relatively softly by use of five differrent tees
The course is golf buggy only (no walking).
