Something happened today during my round at Hampton Court Palace and I just wondered what everyone else would do. As we approached the 15th green, we noticed the 2 four ball groups that were playing behind us, had got their tee's confused and had gone straight from the 13th to the 16th. The first group were already palying their shots to the green and the second 4 were teeing off. As we finished on the green, we asked the 2 ball that were behind both groups why they hadn't mentioned to them they had made a mistake. But I thought, if I was playing a 2 ball behind two 4 balls would I tell them, or would I just accept the clear open holes in front of me and leave them too it.
Just a thought.

Sorry Duncan - I would tell them. It sometimes happens at Royal Blackheath when green fees are without a member and they go from 15 to 4. They have paid their money. It's the polite thing to do.

Of course its the polite thing to do. I have sometimes gone to play the wrong hole on a strange course and was gratful that members put me right.

It can happen to play the wrong hole.... for many reasons... bad signage, criss cross holes, bad weather, too busy chatting & not seeing the signs.... it is good etiquette to tell & good etiquette to accept one has gone wrong,: it's only a game & when one plays lots of different courses, yes it does happen., "mea culpa"....
In fact, the 1st time I played at Hampton Court, I very nearly did the same as reported by Robin, so my first impression of the course was I did not like playing there if not able to find my way easily, but the 2nd time, I paidd more attention & I was with a member which helps.
