Hi all,

I dont have easy access to a computer, and this site does not seem to work very well on mobile internet. I cant join games, the inbox doesnt load and I cant post photos!!

I have a decent phone and an android browser and its useless on the site. Any tips anyone? Does TSG work better on an iphone?

I think there should be a TSG app. Given the social nature of the site I reckon an app would be a revelation! Any plans tsg team???

I have an Iphone 4 and TSG works well on it, just entering my scores are a bit of a mare so I keep my cards and enter them on my PC when i get a chance, joining games, adding friends are all easy. I also use my phone on the course for yardage, its supprizingly accurate, I have compared it to my mates Garmin approach.

Hi,
I am interested to know what you are using?
I use TSG on my Iphone 4s, Ipad and my work phone (Blackbury Bold) and all work really well. I can do everything other then enter my scores (thats down to the screen size, not the fact you cant)

Apps are great but to be worth while you would need at least 90% of members using it to make it worth while in cost to TSG.

Unless we have a very clever member willing to do it for free??

Cheers
Andy

Hi Adam,

Thanks for the note, its a good question, and something we hope to look at in the future but alas at the moment, we are concentrating our efforts on improving the site function and speeds of the website.

The problem we have, is that the cost of creating an a TSG App - which has to work across all mobile platforms - as they can be very expensive. And of course, as Andy rightly points out would only appeal right now to circa 4% of the sites users that use mobile entry - although this is obviously a chicken and egg situation!

As far as we know, the site works very well on iPhones and Blackberry's(I perosnally use the latter) but I can't comment on Androids as it depends on which phone you have and if you have Wi-Fi in your house, which I suspect you haven't, if you don't have a PC or Laptop. Also bear in mind that compared to other sites, you are downloading a lot of data each time, scorecards, member handicaps etc etc. which also can slow things on mobile.

Of course, we are hoping that with the advent of 4G coming in next year that the mobile technology will catch up with us, rather than the other way round, which means we can keep our annual membership fees affordable.

I am of course, encouraged that no one else is suffering like you but I hope that goes someway to answering your questions.

Happy Golfing!

Kind Regards

Ian

Hi guys, and thank you Ian for your detailed reply!

I am suprised that only 4% would use an app - that seems very low to me, but hey you guys are the experts.

I think in regard to TSG's expansion it is as you say, a bit of a chicken and egg situation. I am 27 and I would say all of my younger golfing friends use a lot of golf apps & gadgets (like freecaddie for example) and an app might recruit a younger audience to this site.

With regard to the technology I think it may be an Android problem. I am using an orange branded san francisco or zte blade (whichever you prefer) and have no luck using the site. My girlfriend has a samsung galaxy ace and that is no better. I suppose the answer to my problem is "get a decent phone!"

Thanks and keep up the good work :)

Interesting... I got to this point using Android (v4.0.4) on a Galaxy S3 with no problem and was about to comment on that fact when it came to a grinding halt! Ironically, I'm finishing this post on a Windows 7 HP laptop.

I still have an iphone 4 so I might give that a try later. The bigger screen on the S3 should have been better... oh well.

I used to try using the site on my mobile but I gave upbecause I found that the drop-down menus on the main screen do not work very well. Sometimes the rotating ads appear above the menus and other times the menu pops up but then disappears before you have a chance to select anything from it. I've had this problem on iOS and Android and have raised it before.

Dave I have the exact same problem with the drop down menus, and the confirm/ok buttons are a pretty hit and miss as well!
As a point of interest I tried the site on a mates iphone5 (in my house with no wifi etc) and it works spot on. Ok if you've got the £££ !
