At 55 yrs old I have returned to the game after a 12 year break, where I have not played any golf at all.

Currently taking lessons and got myself a set of Ping G20s I am now looking at joining a club (Huddersfield area) and would appreciate any advice in terms of what to consider.

Many thanks in advance.

Hi Joe and welcome to TSG !

Living in Essex, I do not know much about individual Golf Clubs in Yorkshire, but one of the most important considerations is always the cost of joining a club.  Membership normally involves an initial 12 month commitment, although some clubs do now offer a shorter 'trial' period.

As you've just started playing again and are having lessons,  your golf will probably (and hopefully!) improve quickly, so it's usually best to play at different courses.   Do you have any friends who play?  Perhaps they will invite you to play at their club?

As an alternative to joining a Golf Club, you could simply decide where you want to play, book a tee time and then post the game on TSG.  Our system will then generate an email which is sent to all other members within the catchment area of that golf course, inviting them to play with you.

This could give you a lot more opportunities to play golf ..... good luck !

Many thanks for the welcome and advice.Thankfully the lessons are paying dividends and have had the opportunity to play some local courses which I have really enjoyed.

None of my regular buddies are golfers so just want to make the right choice in terms of joining a club.

Look forward to perhaps playing with some TSG members in the near future.

Hi Joe,
As a fellow member of TSG perhaps i may be of assistance to you as i live in West Yorks and played at virtually all the West Yorkshire courses. Please feel free to give me a call any evening on my mobile 07596 990038 and i could perhaps offer some insight to the local clubs.
