They couldn't give Colin a second chance this early.  Darren still has time.  Paul is a good choice.  I'm still smarting that Poults didn't get nominated for Sports Personality of the Year this year and Darren came second to Zara Phillips a few years ago. Zara hasn't got a personality. Limited vocabulary...but she can say amazing.  Sorry - I digress - most unusual for me.......

Paul's a good choice, given he has the full support of the players....they like him a lot, whereas Colin doesn't appear to have the same relationship...a bit like Nick Faldo. Having met Colin however...did I tell you about the time me and Colin....sorry, now I digress.  Anyway, although they may not like him as much, they certainly respect him and that's all important....he'll probably captain again some time in the future.
The 'pally', one of the boys relationship does not always work though...look at the Venables years as England manager - disasterous. Luckily, golfers are not as stupid as footballers, so I believe they will work for Paul, and we will beat the Americans again....who are OK in a crowd, but seem to falter when on their own. Good at psyching themselves up with the roared 'YEAAAAH' and lots of fist pumping, wearing their serious faces, which is not the best way to approach golf...is it? I also think they will be intimidated by Tom Watsons presence, so all in all it's going to be another victory for the EU.....discuss

What was wrong with Terry Venables Alan?!  If I am not mistaken he was the last England manager (17 years ago!) that got us to semi-final of a major tournament!!

As for Paul McGinley, I am not sure... I know he's popular amoungst the players but I think Darren would have been a better choice......

A fair bet that Paul will do a good job, he's the type of guy you want in your team (especially when on a team pub crawl).  Probably hasthe respect of most of the team, and for those Captain's picks... Paul I think you would be a great Captain, and my clubs are clean and waiting, phone call didn't arrive last year... do you need my new number?

Paul McGinley is the right choice, with the backing of most players and the track record of 2 wins as captain at The Seve Trophy.

Darren Clarke didn't want the job - preferring to concentrate on playing for the next 2 years and Colin Montgomerie (Alan's mate!) was one of the advocates of the captaincy being a 'once only' position.

Darren should be captain in 2016 and then Padraig Harrington could make it a trio of Irish captains in 2018.   Beyond that, we have Westwood, Garcia, Donald and of course, future Sports Personality of the Year ..... Sir Ian Poulter.

Terry Venables was in charge of the most popular and successful England team since 1966.  Everyone must remember the National Anthem changing in 1996 when football came home ..... perhaps 'El Tel' could be brought in to manage The Ryder Cup team at Gleneagles?!!

I think Paul McGinley is a safe selection and i am sure will do a good job, however i feel for anyone who had to captin the next team after last years epic and emptional result.... bit of a hard act to follow.

Next id have Clarke and i would never let Colin have it again, i am seen flys with more personality and its that bad that i am almost close to shouting USA USA at the TV lol....

El Tel was and is still the best England manager since the heros of Sir Alfs Ramsey mighty team, led by God aka Bobby Moore.
I am not iterested in what deals are done or what they pay in tax, all i need to know is what the starting 11 will be and what his going to do to win for my country but the press feel otherwise.
