I keep looking around courses that take these on a weekend and getting a little annoyed that rarely is it actually half price at all.

Rusper, for instance, the 2fore1 price jumps from £25 a round to £44 for two players if you want to use a voucher at the weekend. Hardly half price and that doesn't include the £2 for the voucher itself. Actually only £2 cheaper in the long run.

To me, if a club signs up then it should be as advertised and not suddenly the day rate or unlimited golf but after 4pm (as one club advertises).

Does anyone know of any genuine courses that actually stick to the whole point of these vouchers in or around Surrey? Has to be a weekend unfortunately for me.

Hi Ash,
I like you are angry about this, as I have yet to find a club that really does offer 2 for 1 they all seam to want to charge the day rate I have even said to a couple of clubs does that mean I can play all day, Guess what the answer was, have also tried to take it up with the company concerned but to no avail. I guess if we still want to use them we have to be satisfied with the couple of quid saving.

There are now several schemes offering discounted tee times - 2fore1, Greenfree, e-tee off, Open Fairways, etc, as well as the online tee time websites.  Most Golf Clubs which accept them have restrictions as to when they can be used - ie, their busier times.

This is understandable really, as they have to make sure members have priority, but it can be annoying if you have bought vouchers which are not accepted when you want to play.

Problems will arise if the websites are not updated with timings/green fees, so it will always be best to confirm with the club that the voucher will be accepted and the green fee applicable, when booking the tee time.

Ash, in Surrey you have a few 'TSG Preferred' courses where, as a TSG member,  you can take advantage of green fee discounts without any need for vouchers.   Surrey National, Woldingham, Westerham, The Addington and, of course, Bletchingley all offer discounts for TSGers and, if you travel a bit further, there's Tudor Park and East Brighton.   The full list can be seen on the Green Fee Offers page,  where you'll also find details of the latest addition - Hever Castle.

Thanks John. I will certainly look at other deals you have suggested.

i understand they have to look after members etc but 2 for 1 should be exactly that. If it isn't then they need to change the deal. I'm in sales and I would get crucified if deals I proposed were not exactly how I sell them. Most common 'false' compliant is being missold and I believe 2fore1 is guilty of this.

if a club wants, and needs to get visitors in to keep members fees down, balance the books and or stay afloat then us nomads are very important as well. Maybe even more so, especially us brave (or stupid) winter players.

Anyway, I'm just gettng old and a miser!!

Old thorns have a half price green fee not on the all day price and its well worth the trip. I booked 2 tees on greenfree but they take all vouchers. Cant comment on the other courses, Wokefield park was also half price green fee not on the all day price another course well worth a drive. maybe a name and shame would help members stay away from the deal breaking golf clubs and we can take our money to the clubs that want to survive the credit cruch...
