Hi All
I have recently beeing playing my golf at Hurtmore and whilst I enjoy the course I like to try out different courses and thought I would ask for some advice.
To give some idea what I would be looking for. Well I like the course to be fairly open as I would still consider myself to be fairly new to the game and certainly not always striaght off the tee, maybe something a little longer than Hurtmore which I think is around 5,200 yards off the yellow tees.
I would prefer the green fees to be below the £50 mark, however I do have some 'two fore one' vouchers and I also have an 'open fairways' card so if the course accepted either of these it would allow the original fees to be a little higher.
Location wise, well I live in Chessington (Horton Park is my nearest course) and would be willing to travel 30/45 mins.
Any recommendations?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Stewart,
I think there are plenty of courses nearby you that would suit you Selsdon Park, Farleigh Court, Surrey National, Godstone (a good 9 hole to practice on)..... best thing to do is run a search under the "Find Courses" menu tab and read the reveiws of other TSGers, which are very helpful.
In addition, I think your budget should easily cover you for most clubs, although paying those kinds of green fees whilst playing off 28 (whilst you're still learning), you may struggle to appreciate some of the longer courses at this stage and not get the value.
Best thing to do is join some of the games in your local area or post one yourself. Or of course, join one of the societies listed in Surrey and the surrounding area. TSGers are always keen to see new faces on the tee/at their games....
Good luck and look forward to catching a game with you sometime soon!
Regards

Hi Ian
Thanks for the suggested courses, I will take a look at them. I agree that I do not really want to be looking at the longer courses at my handicap, although that is something that confuses/bugs me.
I appreciate when I was a complete novice my handicap would be 28, however my last few rounds at Hurtmore have resulted in adj net scores of 92 & 93 (my score less any shots more than a double bogey). I would have thought this must have reduced my handicap?
Are the hanicap trackers the best way of getting your actual handicap, or do I need to go join a club? Maybe I should of started another thread.
Thanks
Stewart

Stewart,
You've only included 2 cards in your handicap adjustment. You need 3 or more to have a properly registered handicap that'll start coming down.

Hello Stewart. Give North Downs Golf Club near Caterham a try. It's not too long, but it's a great course, and they're doing a good deal at the moment. £22 for 18 holes, coffee and bacon roll, and a pint at the end.

Hi Stewart,
What about Sandown, Esher ???? 18 holes, a 9 holes Par 3 and a few practice holes as well and a big driving range. All very flat, but some challenges along the way. Very cheap on a Monday, pleasant bar/restaurant, large car park.
Abbey Moore, Chertsey ? Cant remember if it is 18 or 2 x 9s.
Richmond Park, 2 courses (the Duke's , the Prince's). At the moment, the Prince's is a 9 holes as re-designing going on due to the state of the art new CLUBHOUSE. (New entrance as well, off the A3).
