i played yesterday at Styrrup hall golf club, most notable for its 3rd hole at 712yds from the white tees

yes we were allowed to play from the whites by the pro (8 players, 4 are members and 3 others are members at another course, 1 visitor)

i played superb on the front 9 shooting an impressive 35, 3under gross which included 2 birdies and an eagle on the short par 4 7th

back 9 was a complete different story with 11th tee shot OB but i did manage to make a 5 (2nd ball birdie ;-D ) and also a lost ball on tee shot of 12 as well, finishing the back 9 in 43 shots 8over gross

total score of 78 which if anyone told me i would shoot before i started i would have gladly took it but after the front 9 i was dissapointed to say the least

oh well 0.6 cut and try again next round ;-)

I have to agree. Two games recently, one a few weeks back, and one today thet were the same. In both instances I shot 50 something on the front nine, could hardly hit anything at all, and from stableford point of view just kept head above water. Then out onto the back nine, not feeling any different and shot 2 over par, and 3 over par respectively. I have only just been pushed to 23 handicap, so those scores are amazing in themselves. But why oh why such a difference. According to that I could be single figure handicap.

Silly thing is in both games overall shots was in the eighties, that I too would have been absolutely thrilled with in a normal situation.

Oh well, the joys of being amatures I guess.

I don't get anything as drastic as that but normally have a stretch of a few holes that I play a blinder and then go to pot for the next few.

example a recent round I parred 4 holes on the spin, (1 par 3, 2 par 4's and a 5) and then followed by 7,7,8,8.
drives me mad. No matter what I do I can't break 90
