We have had a few requests recently to expand the facilities of the site to include the ability for any member to create a 'free format' group (eg North Kent Wanderers or Ladies Aloud...).

The functionality suggested would see creation of a sort of 'Home Page' for the group - with the Group Name, an Introduction/Description, maybe a Logo, details of the Organiser, a list of existing Members etc.  Plus the Organiser would be able to easily create Games specifically for the group and enter the scores to support display of a League Table/Order of Merit for the Group.

We think it would enable members to formalise their existing 'Friends List' into a formal Group.  Plus it would make it easier for other members to see the existing groups of members (currently groups are the friends on your 'Friends Lists') and see which ones suit their specific requirements (geographic, individual personalities, when they play, their ability !)  and make it easier to join the groups they like the look of (they may choose to join several groups...).

What do you think?  Is this something which you'd like to see?   If so tell us.   If not tell us !

this would allow my pub golf society to use the site to manage their games but they only want new members who visit the pub.  would this be okay or do you only want individual members to use the groups bit?

No, we're happy for anyone to use the functionality, but, ideally, we prefer to see groups which allow new entrants to join them (thus conforming to the ethos of the site ie 'social' golfers...).

I think the 'My Friends List' bit is a good way to keep in touch with your existing friends but I'd definitely like to see other members start groups on the site 'cos I think they will be more open and easier for new members to decide who they want to join.  Also I'd like to see a score tracking facility (I'm getting better and want to see the improvement !).

Sounds like a good way to manage a summer swindle. Everyone who wants to join in the swindle could join the new 'group' where we could then post games just for that group and manage the scores i.e whos winning and by what score. Best 3 from 5 or something like that. Would that work?
