Funnily enough, this is something we are currently looking into but at this stage it highly likely that it will be cost prohibitive due to the number of platforms you have to work across (iPhone, Android, Blackberry).
Sadly, our coffers do not quite stretch to that of Facebok and Twitter but its something we will be hoping to implement as the community grows.
As you rightly mention, adding a mobile version of the site to the offering is more lightly and we will be letting members know more about this option once we have investigated things further.
However, as it stands the site is relatively easy to use on most mobile browsers, with some odd limitations.
